Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Tampa Bay Ruskin FL 232 PM EST Fri Dec 4 2020

DISCUSSION. Flow aloft over Florida remains southwesterly with ridging to our south and a shortwave moving toward the southeast. At the surface, high pressure remains out over the western Atlantic Ocean with weak low pressure over the southeast and a frontal boundary moving into the deep south. Some sprinkles and light showers have been ongoing across the region since overnight due to a weak shortwave over the eastern Gulf of Mexico and this is expected to continue through the rest of today. Rain chances increase for tonight as the front moves through the area, with most showers coming to an end Saturday morning as high pressure quickly builds back in.

Another area of low pressure is expected to develop in the Gulf late Sunday, moving across Florida Sunday night into Monday. This will bring another round of rain to the region, with cooler and drier high pressure settling in through the rest of the week.

AVIATION. VFR conditions are expected through the rest of today, then MVFR and possibly IFR cigs are expected to develop overnight and persist through Saturday morning. VFR should return for the tail end of the forecast period.

MARINE. High pressure over the western Atlantic will keep southerly winds in place before a passing frontal boundary brings a chance of showers and switches winds to the northwest to north tonight into Saturday. Another area of low pressure moves through the Gulf Sunday night into monday, bringing additional rain chances. Overall, no headlines are expected for the next few days.

FIRE WEATHER. High pressure will remain to our east while a front moves through the area tonight into Saturday, bringing a chance for some showers. Overall, no fire weather concerns as relative humidity values will remain above critical levels. No significant fog is expected.

NOTE: East coast views moved to GEOS-16. They are experimental and not well supported by NOAA so they may not be correct so be warned. This change required redoing a large amount of the GOES code. If the image you are expecting is not showing, please let me know. You may need to use the EDIT function to update your location.

There are five sources. 1) Documents and manuals from a variety of sources. These have not been checked for accuracy and in many cases have not even been read by anyone associated with L-36.com. I have no idea of they are useful or accurate, I leave that to the reader. 2) Articles others have written and submitted. It is not checked for accuracy either by anyone at L-36.com or by the source which is typically the US Government. See the NOAA web site for their disclaimer. Finally, tide and current data on this site is from 2007 and 2008 data bases, which may contain even older data. Changes in harbors due to building or dredging change tides and currents and for that reason many of the locations presented are no longer supported by newer data bases. For example, there is very little tidal current data in newer data bases so current data is likely wrong to some extent. This data is NOT FOR NAVIGATION. See the XTide disclaimer for details. In addition, tide and current are influenced by storms, river flow, and other factors beyond the ability of any predictive program.
