Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Tampa Bay Ruskin FL 231 PM EDT Thu Oct 1 2020

DISCUSSION. Cold front is officially parked in South Florida and that is where it will stay for the rest of the week. This means high pressure to our north will influence the area which will keep our slightly cooler and less humid air in place. The only exception will be down in Charlotte Lee and southern Highlands counties where a few storms will be possible in the afternoon and evening. So for right now enjoy the taste of fall because by the weekend it will be long gone.

Ridging in the Atlantic will start to push back in during the weekend. That will force the stalled out boundary to push back north into the area for the weekend. Saturday will be more of a transition day with showers chances coming back plus the humidity. By Sunday the stalled out front will be right over us giving us high shower chances and gloomy conditions.

By early next week the front will wash itself out and then the big question is what will be happening in the Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico. Currently NHC is watching two systems for developing. Right now most models are showing the systems staying more around the Yucatan Peninsula but there is still a lot of uncertainty in the forecast. For now we will keep our generally summer time shower chances in the forecast along with summer time temperatures returning. Remember to continue to monitor NHC for the latest on the two watch areas.

AVIATION. VFR conditions expected through the period however brief MVFR conditions can't be ruled out in our southern TAFs sites. Winds will remain out of the north and northeast through the period with VCTS possible at FMY and RSW.

MARINE. Winds will remain between 10 to 15 knots and out of the northeast through the work week as a stalled boundary sits in South Florida. By the weekend the boundary will start lifting north again. This will shift our winds more to the east and increase our winds to 15 to 20 knots. Shower chances will also go up on the weekend with widespread storms expected for Sunday.

FIRE WEATHER. No concerns as afternoon humidities are expected to remain above critical values.

NOTE: East coast views moved to GEOS-16. They are experimental and not well supported by NOAA so they may not be correct so be warned. This change required redoing a large amount of the GOES code. If the image you are expecting is not showing, please let me know. You may need to use the EDIT function to update your location.

Finally, tide and current data on this site is from 2007 and 2008 data bases, which may contain even older data. Changes in harbors due to building or dredging change tides and currents and for that reason many of the locations presented are no longer supported by newer data bases. In addition, tide and current are influenced by storms, river flow, and other factors beyond the ability of any predictive program.
