area forecast discussion
national weather service tampa bay ruskin fl
243 pm edt Sun aug 18 2019

Short term (today - Monday)
The transition begins as upper level ridging extending from bermuda
southwestward over the bahamas and southern florida starts to shift
northward as the trough that has been over the east coast weakens
and moves north. This will bring back a more summertime pattern as
the winds shift to the east-southeast to start out the week. Showers
and storms have been very limited today mainly over the nature
coast. This pattern will continue for the next 24 hours as we
transition to a more summerlike pattern. Atmospheric moisture will
be on the decline starting tomorrow dropping below 2 inches for the
first time in a couple of weeks. With the decreasing rain chances,
temperatures will also warm back up to around average with upper
80's to low 90's expected each day.

Long term (Monday night - Sunday)
Mid level and surface troughing over the southeastern states and
northeast gulf of late will gradually weaken as it lifts out to the
northeast through Tuesday. In the wake of the trough mid level and
surface ridging over the atlantic will rebuild in across the north
central florida peninsula and eastern gulf through the remainder of
the week and into next weekend with a return to a more typical
summertime weather pattern across the forecast area under a
developing southeast wind flow. After slightly drier conditions on
Monday, increasing moisture (pw's returning into the 1.8 to 2+ inch
range) combined with daytime heating will support scattered to
numerous diurnal sea breeze driven showers and storms across the
forecast area each day, with a southeast steering flow favoring the
highest pops and best convective coverage focusing along and to the
west of the i-75 corridor during the afternoon and early evening
hours along the east west coast sea breeze merger. The increasing
moisture combined with slow moving storms will support some locally
heavy rainfall each day, and with the ground remaining quite
saturated from the recent heavy rains the threat of some localized
flooding and additional rises on area rivers will continue to be a
problem. Near seasonal level temperatures are expected with lows in
the lower to mid 70s, with daytime highs around 90 to the lower 90s.

Aviation
We are starting out the day much drier than the past couple of days.

Showers and storms are staying well to the north along the nature
coast with no significant impacts expected at any of the
terminals. Winds remain out of the southwest less than 10 knots
with no aviation impacts expected.

Marine
High pressure ridging over southern florida lifts northward over the
central gulf waters today and holds in place through mid week
with fairly light winds and seas. The only impact over the coastal
waters will be higher winds and seas in the vicinity of
thunderstorms. &&

Fire weather
Scattered to numerous showers and storms each day combined with high
humidities will preclude any fire weather concerns through the
period.

There are five sources. 1) Documents and manuals from a variety of sources. These have not been checked for accuracy and in many cases have not even been read by anyone associated with L-36.com. I have no idea of they are useful or accurate, I leave that to the reader. 2) Articles others have written and submitted. These are not intended to be fact, they are my opinions. 4) Small programs that generate result presented on a web page. Like any computer program, these may and in some cases do have errors. Almost all of these also make simplifying assumptions so they are not totally accurate even if there are no errors. Please verify all results. 5) Weather information is from numerious of sources and is presented automatically. It is not checked for accuracy either by anyone at L-36.com or by the source which is typically the US Government. See the NOAA web site for their disclaimer. Finally, tide and current data on this site is from 2007 and 2008 data bases, which may contain even older data. Changes in harbors due to building or dredging change tides and currents and for that reason many of the locations presented are no longer supported by newer data bases. For example, there is very little tidal current data in newer data bases so current data is likely wrong to some extent. This data is NOT FOR NAVIGATION. See the XTide disclaimer for details. In addition, tide and current are influenced by storms, river flow, and other factors beyond the ability of any predictive program.
