Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Tampa Bay Ruskin FL 927 AM EDT Thu Sep 16 2021

UPDATE. Currently seeing plenty of showers in the Gulf slowly trying to make their way onshore. Most have been unsuccessful so far but as winds start to pick up in the next hour or two we should see more showers making it to our coastal areas. Morning skewt shows an uptick in moisture with a PW of 2.1. This will help to bring more widespread showers and storms to the area this afternoon and evening. No major changes needed to the forecast at this time.

Prev Discussion. /issued 814 AM EDT Thu Sep 16 2021/

AVIATION . We will be in a wet pattern over the next 24 hours which will result in either VCSH, VCTS, or SHRA at all terminals for most of period. We could see brief MVFR and IFR conditions when the showers and storms are over station. Besides that expect VFR conditions. Winds will be light and generally out of the southwest and west through the period.

Prev Discussion . /issued 513 AM EDT Thu Sep 16 2021/

DISCUSSION . Tropical Depression Nicholas will linger over the northern Gulf region as a disturbance lifts to the north-northwest over the eastern Atlantic, and a trough will be in place across the area between them. Light south to southwest flow will be in place for the next couple of days with deep moisture allowing for scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms each day. High pressure will then build into the area from the NE over the weekend as these systems lift out and dissipate, with winds shifting back to the east with afternoon sea breezes turning winds onshore. Scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms will continue to be possible, but timing will start to focus to in the afternoon and evening. Highs will be generally in the upper 80s for the next couple of days, then return to the upper 80s to lower 90s. Lows will be in the 70s each morning.

MARINE . A trough of low pressure will be in place across the waters for the next day or so keeping light south to southwest flow in place across the waters. High pressure will then build in from the NE and easterly flow will establish across the area over the weekend and into next week. Deep moisture will allow for scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms across the waters, and winds and seas will be higher near the storms. Otherwise no headlines expected.

FIRE WEATHER . No concerns.
