GMZ800 Synopsis For The Coastal Waters From Bonita Beach To Suwannee River- 251 Pm Edt Sat Aug 24 2019
Synopsis.. Area of low pressure currently over the florida peninsula will result in north to northeast winds through Sunday morning before gradually turning southwesterly as the disturbance pulls away off into the atlantic. Through midweek, this flow setup will allow for a better chance of showers and storms early in the morning and moving inland through the day. No headlines are expected at this time... By later in the work week into the weekend, a broad trough of low pressure in the gulf will increase rain chances across the eastern gulf waters.

Short term
Easterly flow is in place as surface low pressure sits over the
southern portion of the florida peninsula. This feature is
associated with shower and thunderstorm activity currently underway
off the east coast of florida, and will act to provide some
additional enhancement to showers and thunderstorms primarily from
tampa bay southward.

While the feature is expected to move out over the atlantic and
intensify into a tropical or subtropical storm sometime in the next
few days, impacts in the short term for west central and southwest
florida will be limited only to the aforementioned enhancement to
showers and thunderstorms across the region. Overall a typical
summertime pattern associated with easterly flow is expected to hold
through the remainder of the weekend with scattered showers and
thunderstorms forming in the afternoon hours and highs in the upper
80s at the coast and lower 90s inland.

Long term
The influence of the tropical disturbance will begin to wane by
Monday as a shortwave trough axis begins to usher the system out
into the open atlantic ocean. As it does so, a wsw flow will return
to the region, leading to wet conditions once more across west
central and southwest florida beginning on Tuesday. Showers and
thunderstorms will form off the coast in the morning hours and then
spread inland throughout the day.

This wsw flow will not last, however, as the bermuda-azores high
begins to build back in on Thursday at the surface. The anticyclonic
(clockwise) movement of air around the feature at the surface will
cause winds to become more ese by late in the work weak. This ese
flow will continue to keep the pattern wet, particularly in
southwest florida as a deep plume of moisture from the caribbean
will be advected over the peninsula.

Aviation
Generally light north to northeast winds early this afternoon.

Winds will increase later this afternoon to 7-10 knots and shift
from the northeast to a more northerly direction and then north-
northwest near coastal sites. Vcsh across southern terminals with
occasional MVFR CIGS near fmy rsw. Vcts remains in tafs to start
by 20z. However, the greatest chance coverage for TS will be
southern terminals, where prevailing MVFR CIGS will continue,
especially near convection. The region should clear by 01-02 utc.

Marine
Generally isolated showers and thunderstorms are possible this
afternoon evening. Ene winds at 10-12kts will lead to 1-2ft
seas across coastal waters, with higher winds and seas possible with
passing storms. A similar trend is expected during the day tomorrow
as well, but with a slightly higher rain chance in the evening and
overnight hours.

Winds begin to become more variable and rain chances begin to
increase in nearshore waters on Monday as the winds begin to shift
back to a wsw flow pattern. From Tuesday through the mid-week time
frame, this pattern will lead to high rain chances across coastal
waters in the morning hours gradually diminishing throughout the
day. Winds are expected to be 10-12kts and seas will be 1-2 feet.

Fire weather
While slightly drier than last week, ample moisture is present to
support afternoon showers and thunderstorms. A wet pattern begins to
return by next week, and this will help to keep fire danger low for
the next seven days.
