Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Tampa Bay Ruskin FL 300 AM EST Sun Dec 15 2019

DISCUSSION. Mid level ridging builds in across much of the Gulf region through tonight then eases east Mon as a trough slides into the Mississippi Valley from the west by Mon night. At the surface - a cold front south of the Florida Keys dissipates today as high pressure centered along the GA/FL moves east across the Atlantic tonight and Mon while stretching back to the central Gulf of Mexico.

A dry and stable airmass prevails for the next couple of days with sunny skies. However light winds and residual low level moisture are allowing some patchy fog to form this morning that will lift and mix out by 8 or 9 am. Cool Temperatures this morning gradually warm to above by Mon. While winds and waves on the Gulf are diminishing they will still support a high risk of rip currents through midday.

For Tue-Sat: The mid level trough noted above slides across the eastern U.S. and swings a cold front across FL Tue and early Wed with showers and cloudy skies. Deep layer ridging builds into the Gulf region late Wed-Thu and shifts east to FL Fri with a dry and stable air mass. A deep low with a cold front stretching south moves into the lower Mississippi Valley and central Gulf of Mexico Fri then tracks to the southeast U.S. coast and FL Sat. These features provide increasing moisture across the area with a chance of showers and thunderstorms for Sat. Temperatures initially run above normal then drop significantly after the front passes midweek. They slowly warm through Sat. Model discrepancy introduces some uncertainty in the end of the forecast . the GFS is a tad faster and more robust than the ECMWF.

AVIATION. 15/06Z SKC prevails but with some limited BR. especially LAL and PGD which will see some MVFR to IFR BR and ST TIL 13Z. FEW CU/SC drift in toward the end of the period. Light and VRBL winds become E and SE during the day AOB 9kt.

MARINE. Light to gentle easterly winds gradually veer as high pressure moves away and a front with some showers approaches Tue. Winds become northerly at 20 to 25 knots as the front crosses the waters and high pressure settles.

FIRE WEATHER. Slightly drier air works in today but then gradually moistens through early in the week with minimum RH values staying above critical levels. The next cold front ushers in drier air but also some cooler temperatures . keeping the RH out of critical ranges.

NOTE: East coast views moved to GEOS-16. They are experimental and not well supported by NOAA so they may not be correct so be warned. This change required redoing a large amount of the GOES code. If the image you are expecting is not showing, please let me know. You may need to use the EDIT function to update your location.

I do not sell or share any user data or anything else for that matter. I do not keep site logs longer than I need to to keep bad actors off the site. Basically, I delete them after looking at them. If you are subject to CCPA, Google ads on this site will not be based on your past behavior so you will likely not see an ad for a lawn mower just because you looked for one at a big box website. I do not believe this site is subject to CCPA but I am doing what I can to follow the guidelines anyway.

There are five sources. 1) Documents and manuals from a variety of sources. These have not been checked for accuracy and in many cases have not even been read by anyone associated with L-36.com. I have no idea of they are useful or accurate, I leave that to the reader. 2) Articles others have written and submitted. These are not intended to be fact, they are my opinions. 4) Small programs that generate result presented on a web page. Like any computer program, these may and in some cases do have errors. Almost all of these also make simplifying assumptions so they are not totally accurate even if there are no errors. Please verify all results. 5) Weather information is from numerious of sources and is presented automatically. It is not checked for accuracy either by anyone at L-36.com or by the source which is typically the US Government. See the NOAA web site for their disclaimer. Finally, tide and current data on this site is from 2007 and 2008 data bases, which may contain even older data. Changes in harbors due to building or dredging change tides and currents and for that reason many of the locations presented are no longer supported by newer data bases. For example, there is very little tidal current data in newer data bases so current data is likely wrong to some extent. This data is NOT FOR NAVIGATION. See the XTide disclaimer for details. In addition, tide and current are influenced by storms, river flow, and other factors beyond the ability of any predictive program.
