Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Tampa Bay Ruskin FL 150 PM EDT Tue Aug 11 2020

DISCUSSION. Scattered thunderstorms already pushing inland across much of the area with a little vort max energy enhancing development across the extreme north. Storms will continue to develop and move along seabreeze and outflow boundaries through the rest of the afternoon and evening. Winds become light and variable after sunset, with storms gradually dissipating. Slightly stronger ridging will be building in across the area through the end of the week as a front washes out across north Florida. This will bring a bit more prevailing E/SE flow across the area but still light enough for good afternoon sea breeze development each day. Storms will be mainly in the afternoon and evening with the sea breeze. Highs will continue in the lower to mid 90s with lows in the mid to upper 70s each day.

Upper level troughing developing over the eastern U.S. will help to suppress the subtropical ridge of late southward transitioning over the weekend and continuing through early next week as a frontal trough stalls out across the Southeastern states and north Florida. With the ridge sinking south a developing westerly wind flow will favor a convective pattern change with showers and storms focusing over the Gulf waters and along coastal areas during the late night and early morning hours with the convection then shifting to inland locations each afternoon where the best areal coverage and highest pops will reside each day. Overnight low temperatures will run above normal along the coast due to the onshore flow where readings around 80 can be expected with mid to upper 70s inland. Daytime highs will run near normal with highs climbing into the lower to mid 90s each afternoon.

AVIATION. Winds are turning onshore this afternoon with scattered thunderstorms already impacting some terminals. Storms will continue to be possible through around 02z, then dissipate with winds becoming light and variable for the overnight hours. Winds will increase and turn onshore for Wednesday afternoon along with the chance for some vcty thunderstorms starting around 16z.

MARINE. Light winds and seas will continue under weak high pressure through mid-week. Slightly stronger ridging builds in for the end of the week and into the weekend, with E/SE winds turning onshore in the afternoon. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will be possible each day. Winds and seas will be higher in and near thunderstorms.

FIRE WEATHER. No concerns. Humidities will remain above critical levels through the period.

Finally, tide and current data on this site is from 2007 and 2008 data bases, which may contain even older data. Changes in harbors due to building or dredging change tides and currents and for that reason many of the locations presented are no longer supported by newer data bases.
