Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Tampa Bay Ruskin FL 200 PM EDT Sun Apr 18 2021
DISCUSSION. A frontal boundary will continue to meander over the Nature Coast and gradually settle southward to across the Tampa Bay area and central FL this afternoon and evening as showers and thunderstorms move in from over the Gulf. This boundary will then linger across central FL through mid-week as a series of upper level shortwaves bring periods of showers and thunderstorms across the area along the boundary. This will bring a marginal risk across portions of the area for flooding in any area where training may set up or they get excessive rainfall totals. There is also a marginal risk that a few storms may become severe, especially this afternoon/evening. This pattern continues across the area through Wednesday, with the boundary finally clearing the area later Wednesday bring in some cooler and drier air for the rest of the work week. The next low pressure system then develops in the northern Gulf Saturday and moves across the region through Sunday, bringing a return of some rain chances for next weekend. Temperatures will be in the 70s to mid 80s through Wednesday for highs, and 60s to lower 70s for lows. Behind the front for the end of the week, low temperatures dip about 10 degrees overnight and then rebound with not much change in the highs.
AVIATION. VFR ceilings across the area this afternoon, with moderate and gusty SW winds. Winds will lighten for the evening and overnight hours with some stronger showers and storms possible north and some light patchy fog and more toward morning some showers and storms south. This will cause some MVFR to IFR conditions.
MARINE. A frontal boundary will gradually sag southward from across the northern waters to the central waters and then stall through mid- week, with periods of showers and thunderstorms possible. Winds will generally be S/SW ahead of the boundary and N/NW behind the boundary. The front finally pushes south of the area later Wednesday, with clearing behind the front and winds turning to the NW and increasing to around 15 knots for the end of the week.
FIRE WEATHER. No concerns.
