Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Tampa Bay Ruskin FL 846 PM EDT Sat Sep 26 2020

. Some Heavy Rainfall Possible On Sunday And Monday .

UPDATE. Sea breeze and outflow boundary driven convection across central interior and southern areas early this evening will gradually wind down by midnight as boundary interactions weaken and loss of daytime heating continues with warm and muggy conditions expected overnight into early Sunday morning, with low temperatures in the lower to mid 70s. Ongoing forecast is in good shape with no changes required at this time.

On Sunday a short wave trough over the lower Mississippi valley will lift out to the northeast across the Southeastern states during the day and then toward the eastern U.S. coast during Sunday night into Monday. This feature combined with abundant tropical moisture (PW's 2+ inches) over the area will support increasing rain chances (Pops 60 to 80 percent) on Sunday with numerous to widespread showers and scattered thunderstorms expected along the inland moving sea breeze boundaries with the greatest convective coverage and highest rain chances setting up over interior locations during the afternoon and evening hours. Increasing divergence aloft combined with low level sea breeze/outflow boundary convergence and slow storm motion will all support the potential for some very heavy rainfall in some locations which may lead to some flooding issues especially where the training of storms occur. Similar conditions are expected to continue into early next week as an amplifying upper level trough and attendant early season cold front approach from the west with additional heavy rainfall possible along and ahead of these features.

AVIATION. Brief MVFR conditions from SHRA/TSRA will be possible across the southwestern terminals until 02Z, otherwise VFR is expected at all of the terminals through late Sunday morning. Additional MVFR/IFR conditions will be possible after 18Z on Sunday as SHRA/TSRA redevelop over the area and have have handled with VCTS for now, but short Tempo groups may become necessary in later forecast cycles or amendments. Northwest to north winds in the 6 to 8 knot range early this evening will becoming light and variable overnight. East- southeast winds at 4 to 6 knots after 14Z will become southwest to west at 7 to 9 knots after 18Z at the coastal sites as the sea breeze component develops with higher gusts near TSRA.

MARINE. Onshore sea breeze component along the coast will collapse in the next few hours with loss of daytime heating with light northeast to east winds and slight seas expected across the Gulf waters the remainder of tonight into Sunday morning as high pressure remains in control. Current forecast is in good shape with no changes expected in the next forecast update around 9 PM.
