Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Melbourne FL 952 PM EDT Thu Jul 9 2020

DISCUSSION.

Current-Tonight . Evening boundary collisions across the eastern peninsula and ample moisture are allowing for scattered showers and isolated lighting storms. Some mid-level energy across the north is also aiding activity there, though areawide it remains relatively warm aloft at -4.0C (500mb). Storm impacts include torrential downpours, brief gusty winds, and occasional lightning. Coverage will abate through late evening, though some parameters remain in place for some isolated showers after midnight and towards sunrise near I-4 northward. There will be a mix of PCloudy skies and considerable cloudiness at times overnight. Continued warm/muggy with mins in the L-M70s and perhaps some U70s along the immediate coast. Will send update to zones to clean up first period wording later this evening.

Friday . Previous . Early morning showers and isolated lightning storms possible across the central peninsula. Lingering convection after sunrise should dissipate as conditions remain dry until the afternoon. Deep layer westerly flow and abundant moisture should fire off another round of scattered afternoon storms to finish the week. Afternoon highs reach the low 90s with peak heat indices between 100-105. The main threat with storms will be frequent lightning strikes and gusty winds of 40-50 mph.

AVIATION. Boundary collisions and plentiful moisture keeping convection going this evening across mainly coastal counties. Coverage should diminish into late evening but may see some ISOLD showers overnight and toward sunrise mainly I-4 northward. Tempo MVFR (ISOLD IFR) in stronger showers/storms. Probably another early start to convection on Fri with SCT-NMRS coverage. Westerly light flow continues. ECSB on Fri pinned near coast again.

MARINE. Overnight-Fri . Scattered showers and storms becoming a bit more isolated late in the night. Gusty winds, lightning and torrential downpours the main threats. Offshore moving activity again on Fri and could be an early start, especially Volusia/Brevard coasts. WRLY winds to around 15 kts over the open Atlc tonight, becoming lighter with component possibly veering onshore near the coast in the afternoon, though inland movement of the sea breeze should it develop at all, will be futile. Seas 1-2 ft near shore and 2-3 ft offshore, possibly building to 4 ft well offshore, north of Ft. Pierce, during the day on Fri.

MLB WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES. FL . None. AM . None.
