Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Melbourne FL 947 PM EST Fri Jan 15 2021

UPDATE. Current-Tonight . A cold front currently positioned from Daytona Beach to Fort Myers will continue to press to the southeast through the remainder of the evening and overnight. Latest radar imagery depicts very light showers streaming ahead of the cold front, mainly offering visibility reductions and little to no accumulation from Daytona to Orlando. As of 9pm, showers have diminished generally north of I-4, with clearing anticipated shortly for Lake and interior Volusia counties. With the front moving southward, light showers will soon arrive to Melbourne, but will weaken as they press towards the Treasure Coast.

Overall, activity will be very light, with areas clearing north to south from now through 1-3 am. Southwest winds ahead of the boundary will veer west later tonight, becoming northwest by daybreak. Nighttime lows drop to the mid to upper 40s, lower 50s for the Treasure Coast. No major forecast changes necessary, with only minor updates to account for evening PoP trends.

AVIATION. Cold front sagging from KDAB to KSRQ is producing light to moderate showers south to KMLB this evening. MVFR cig/vis with brief drops to IFR will be possible for northern terminals over the next hour, with showers diminishing as the front moves southward. Most activity will dissipate or move offshore prior to reaching VRB/FPR/SUA, but potential for -RA present through 06Z. As the front advances southward, southwest winds will veer west, with sct/bkn ceilings gradually lifting through 12Z. Tomorrow, winds will continue to veer northwest, increasing up to 10-15 knots with higher gusts.

MARINE. Tonight-Sat . A cold front continues to sag across the local waters, leading to gusty winds associated with light showers. Southwest winds will veer westerly, increasing behind the front late tonight. A Small Craft Advisory will be in effect for the offshore waters with seas reaching 4-6 ft late tonight. For the nearshore, operators of small craft should exercise caution as winds reach 15-20 kt. Seas will remain in the 2-4 ft range.

On Sat, as the front pushes south of the Treasure Coast, winds will slightly increase through the day across the waters but staying at near 20 knots. Seas 4-6 ft offshore.

FIRE WEATHER. Weekend . Increasing winds and drier air behind tonight frontal passage will offer less than ideal fire weather conditions through the weekend. With only a few sprinkles this evening, dry conditions will persist across the area, and min RH values dropping below 40% and wind speeds up to 15 mph across the interior.

Finally, tide and current data on this site is from 2007 and 2008 data bases, which may contain even older data. Changes in harbors due to building or dredging change tides and currents and for that reason many of the locations presented are no longer supported by newer data bases. For example, there is very little tidal current data in newer data bases so current data is likely wrong to some extent. This data is NOT FOR NAVIGATION. See the XTide disclaimer for details. In addition, tide and current are influenced by storms, river flow, and other factors beyond the ability of any predictive program.
