AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION National Weather Service Wakefield VA 328 AM EDT Thu Jul 2 2020

SYNOPSIS. High pressure builds into the region from the northwest today into Friday. A weak trough of low pressure crosses the local area Saturday.

NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 PM THIS EVENING/. As of 225 AM EDT Thursday .

Trough sfc-aloft continuing to push S of the FA attm as lo pres INVOF New England begins to move slowly E. Deep layered N flow will lead to the anticipated drying today. Starting out w/ patchy FG (esp where RA occurred Wed afternoon/evening). Otw . mainly sunny . seasonably warm w/ dew points a bit lower than recent days. Other than ISOLD tstms poss this afternoon/early evening INVOF inland NE NC . PoPs across the FA will be aob 10%. Highs today in the m80s at the coast to the u80s inland.

SHORT TERM /6 PM THIS EVENING THROUGH SATURDAY/. As of 300 AM EDT Thursday .

Hi pres remains NW of the FA tonight/Fri as a trough lingers well off the coast (partially the remnants of the upper low pres system that has been over New England). Any ISOLD convection wanes this evening . otw mainly SKC tonight w/ lows in the u60s-around 70F . except l70s in the metro areas in SE VA. Mainly mostly sunny Fri as deep layered flow remains NNW. As mentioned yesterday . a weak S/W sliding SSE from NY/New England may clip the MD ern shore late/Fri night resulting in periods of clouds and poss ISOLD pcpn. Highs mainly 90-95F. Dew points in the m-u60s will lead to apparent temps topping out not too far above the actual temps. Lingering clouds/poss ISOLD pcpn INVOF ern shore Fri night . otw SKC-partly cloudy w/ lows mainly 70-75F.

NW flow aloft and the development of a sfc trough over the FA (by afternoon) will lead to ISOLD/SCT convection Otw. partly cloudy w/ temps trimmed a bit. Highs from the m-u80s at the coast to the l90s inland.

LONG TERM /SATURDAY NIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY/. As of 300 PM EDT Wednesday .

Much of the forecast late weekend into the first part of next week will hinge on the development of a low over the FL panhandle that will ride up the SE coast early in the week. While both the GFS and the ECMWF keep the bulk of the moisture to the east of the center, the resulting moist S/SE LL flow across our area will result in daily shower/storm chances Sunday through mid week. Temperatures remain seasonal with high temps each day in the upper 80s to lower 90s, and low temps in the upper 60s to lower 70s.

AVIATION /07Z THURSDAY THROUGH MONDAY/. As of 110 AM EDT Thursday .

Patchy FG expected early this morning . will have TEMPO 3SM attm except at ORF Otw. VFR conditions expected through the 06Z TAF period. Less coverage of convection expected this afternoon/early evening . otw SCT-ocnl BKN CU w/ light NNE winds. Mainly VFR conditions expected Fri through Mon . though ISOLD/SCT afternoon/early early tstms are poss (esp Sat-Mon).

No SCA headlines are anticipated at this time through the holiday weekend.

There are five sources. 1) Documents and manuals from a variety of sources. These have not been checked for accuracy and in many cases have not even been read by anyone associated with L-36.com. I have no idea of they are useful or accurate, I leave that to the reader. 2) Articles others have written and submitted. It is not checked for accuracy either by anyone at L-36.com or by the source which is typically the US Government. See the NOAA web site for their disclaimer. Finally, tide and current data on this site is from 2007 and 2008 data bases, which may contain even older data. Changes in harbors due to building or dredging change tides and currents and for that reason many of the locations presented are no longer supported by newer data bases. For example, there is very little tidal current data in newer data bases so current data is likely wrong to some extent. This data is NOT FOR NAVIGATION. See the XTide disclaimer for details. In addition, tide and current are influenced by storms, river flow, and other factors beyond the ability of any predictive program.
