Synopsis A passing weak cold front will bring breezy winds to
the coast this afternoon. A slight warming trend is expected
this weekend, before a more robust warming trend next week. High
pressure will build over the eastern pacific setting up offshore
flow by midweek.

Discussion As of 1:30 pm pdt Saturday... The weak front that
is moving across northern california did produce some measurable
rain in the north bay. Santa rosa picked up a couple hundredths,
and 0.05 inch was received at bodega bay. Breezy west winds are
expected behind this front, mainly near the coast. Onshore flow
will continue on Sunday with slightly warmer temps. Highs will be
in the 60s and 70s.

A more robust warming trend will occur next week as an upper
level ridge builds over the eastern pacific. High temperatures are
expected to warm into the 70s and 80s next week as the ridge axis
moves slowly east into california. Additionally, the surface
pressure gradients will trend offshore, and the stronger offshore
winds coupled with a much drier and warm airmass will elevate fire
weather concerns. Conditions are expected to become more critical
after midweek when the gradient tightens. The ridge will begin to
flatten by week's end as an upper level trough digs into the great
basin.

Aviation As of 10:50 am pdt Saturday... Weak frontal passage
will bring vcsh to ksts and MVFR CIGS across the region as it
passes through this afternoon. Winds generally light to locally
breezy in favored locations. Clearing rapidly returns tonight
into Sunday morning.

Vicinity of ksfo... Deteriorating CIGS over the next few hours as
boundary approaches with bkn ovc 2000-2500 ft posbl thru the day.

Not expecting wetting rains to impact the runways with this
system. Sust winds increasing to around 15kt with occasional gusts
into the low 20kts posbl after 21z.

Sfo bridge approach... Similar to ksfo.

Monterey bay terminals... Increasing clouds from the northwest
today. Lower level clouds will bring MVFR CIGS after 20-21z thru
the rest of the day before clearing out overnight. Winds 10kt or
less. No wetting rains on the runways.

Fire weather As of 3:05 pm pdt Friday... Two main fire weather
concerns over the next seven days. The first impact will be
focused tonight over the higher terrain of the santa lucia
mountains. Hi-res WRF model continues to show a localized
offshore flow scenario tonight with N to NE winds 25-35 mph with
poor humidity recovery. The second impact will be focused on next
week. High pressure is forecast to build starting Sunday Monday
and continue through much of the next week with a warming and
drying trend. More importantly, offshore flow is forecast to
develop on Monday and increase each day before peaking Wednesday
night Thursday morning. Latest GFS continues to show a robust
15mb+ sfo-wmc... That being said the ECMWF isn't as strong. None
the less, this situation next week needs watching. Even if the
strength of the wind doesn't verify rh will be low by night number
three. Stay tuned... .

Marine As of 10:43 am pdt Saturday... High pressure will build
over the eastern pacific and extend over far northern california
into the great basin through early to mid next week. Northwest
swell will subside through the weekend and into early next week.

There are five sources. 1) Documents and manuals from a variety of sources. These have not been checked for accuracy and in many cases have not even been read by anyone associated with L-36.com. I have no idea of they are useful or accurate, I leave that to the reader. 2) Articles others have written and submitted. These are not intended to be fact, they are my opinions. 4) Small programs that generate result presented on a web page. Like any computer program, these may and in some cases do have errors. Almost all of these also make simplifying assumptions so they are not totally accurate even if there are no errors. Please verify all results. 5) Weather information is from numerious of sources and is presented automatically. It is not checked for accuracy either by anyone at L-36.com or by the source which is typically the US Government. See the NOAA web site for their disclaimer. Finally, tide and current data on this site is from 2007 and 2008 data bases, which may contain even older data. Changes in harbors due to building or dredging change tides and currents and for that reason many of the locations presented are no longer supported by newer data bases. For example, there is very little tidal current data in newer data bases so current data is likely wrong to some extent. This data is NOT FOR NAVIGATION. See the XTide disclaimer for details. In addition, tide and current are influenced by storms, river flow, and other factors beyond the ability of any predictive program.
