Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Seattle WA 245 AM PST Sat Dec 7 2019

SYNOPSIS. An exiting weak front will allow for rain to continue this morning before tapering off in the afternoon. The associated low will move east of the area tonight. An upper ridge will build offshore on Sunday for dry weather through early Tuesday. The next system should slide through later Tuesday with unsettled conditions persisting thereafter.

SHORT TERM /TODAY THROUGH MONDAY/. A weak front continues to pass through W WA at the time of this writing with most of the CWA seeing precip. This front will move east of the area by afternoon . allowing for activity to taper off somewhat. The associated upper low will pass over W WA this afternoon . allowing for the chance of rain to extend into the afternoon and evening hours. Dry conditions look to set up during the overnight hours.

An upper level ridge over the offshore waters will allow for dry conditions Sunday and as the ridge moves eastward over the region . clearing skies and continued dry weather into Monday as well.

Thanks to the passing front and resulting rain . high temps today will take a bit of a hit when compared to yesterday . only reaching to right around 50 for most lowland locations. Even though the upper level ridge moves over the area starting Sunday . high temps will not see much in the way of improvement . as cool NW flow aloft will offset the increase in sunshine with high expected to still hover right around 50 for lowland locations Regardless. these temps will still be a few degrees above normal.

LONG TERM /TUESDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/. The ridge will continue to shift eastward Tuesday . allowing for the next weather system to make it to the coast by late morning/early afternoon Tuesday and pushing inland by late Tuesday afternoon. This initial front does not really hold together very well and is followed quickly by a shortwave ridge late Tuesday evening . which would keep conditions dry at least through Wednesday morning. Models diverge a bit on timing of the next feature . the ECMWF brings it to the coast by Wed afternoon while the GFS actually holds it off until Wed night. Ensembles do not really offer much of a consensus on this schism either While the timing is still open to debate. models and ensembles do agree that once it starts . W WA will be in the soup for a while as an upper level low sets up shop over the Gulf of Alaska and seems pretty intent on staying put . which will result in a cavalcade of systems marching through the area for the remainder of the extended.

High temps do not really vary all that much throughout the extended . again remaining right around 50 for most of the lowland areas Overnight lows will warm a bit. starting in the upper 30s for lowland areas Tuesday night but getting into the lower 40s Wed night and staying there for the remainder of the extended period. SMR

AVIATION. Southwest flow aloft will transition to westerly as an upper level trough moves over the area. The air mass is moist and stable. VFR mid level clouds with some low level clouds developing. Expect MVFR/IFR for the morning with some spotty LIFR cigs. Rain will transition to a few showers by afternoon. MVFR by the afternoon with generally light flow. Winds light southerly.

KSEA . VFR cigs will transition to MVFR/IFR by 12z. Rain into the morning will transition to a few showers by 17z. MVFR cigs for the afternoon. Light southeast winds. JD

MARINE. A weak front will move inland today with southeasterly flow easing. Weak low pressure on tonight will give way to high pressure Sunday and Monday with relatively light winds each day. Another front will move through the area Tuesday and Tuesday night.

HYDROLOGY. River flooding is unlikely for the next 7 days.

SEW WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES. WA . None. PZ . None.
