Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Seattle WA 837 AM PDT Sat Jul 24 2021

UPDATE. Mainly clear this morning with clouds and fog along the coast and into the Southwest Interior. Dry and sunny today with temperatures in the low 70s along the coast and low to mid 80s for the interior.

SYNOPSIS. An upper ridge will keep weather systems from approaching Western Washington into next week. Varying degrees of onshore flow and morning coastal clouds will keep temperatures from rising too much above average until after the middle of next week.

SHORT TERM /TODAY THROUGH MONDAY/. Generally clear skies over much of W WA this early morning although seeing some obs reporting stratus along the coast, down the strait and over some of the islands thanks to continued onshore flow. These areas of morning clouds and patchy fog will burn off quickly this morning leaving sunny skies area-wide.

Upper level ridging in place for the duration of the short term coupled with the aforementioned onshore flow will make for typically warm summer days for the short term with highs in the upper 60s to around 70 along the coast and right around 80 for the interior lowlands..maybe creeping up to the mid 80s in the SW interior. 18

LONG TERM /TUESDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/. The upper level ridge shifts eastward Tuesday leaving W WA between it and an upper trough in the northeast Pacific. This will keep the weather fairly static as temperatures will not vary much from the ranges mentioned in the short term during the mid-week period. For late week, however, temps are expected to warm up a little more as the ridge in the center of the country intensifies, extending its influence further west back into W WA. This will lead to afternoon highs in the lower to mid 70s along coast while interior lowlands will bump up into the mid 80s to near 90. 18

AVIATION. Westerly flow aloft with flat upper level ridge over the area. Onshore flow in the lower levels. Areas of low clouds and fog are over the marine areas--mainly coast and Strait of Juan de Fuca. That patches of marine layer clouds that pushed into the interior will burn off quickly. Sunday morning will probably be a repeat with a shallow marine layer helping fog to form along the coast and in the Strait. Otherwise, mostly clear skies under high pressure with a dry stable air mass that becomes somewhat unstable in the afternoon hours. 19

KSEA . Mostly clear skies into Sunday with an afternoon and evening northerly breeze.

MARINE. High pressure offshore and lower pressure east of the Cascades. Small craft advisory evening west winds in the Central Strait of Juan de Fuca and East Entrance. Winds could rise to gale force in the Strait Sunday night. Areas of night and morning low clouds and fog mainly coast and Strait of Juan de Fuca--although patches of fog made it down through Admiralty Inlet and over Whidbey and into Rosario Strait this morning so that could happen again Sunday morning. 19
