Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Seattle WA 308 PM PDT Fri Sep 25 2020

SYNOPSIS. Showers around into Saturday afternoon as a weak trough moves through the Pacific Northwest. An upper ridge will build over the Sunday through most of next week for dry conditions and warmer temperatures.

SHORT TERM /TONIGHT THROUGH MONDAY/. Clouds around much of Western Washington this afternoon with some clearing along the Olympic Peninsula. A Puget Sound Convergence Zone has developed over portions of King and Snohomish County for decent rain rates of 0.5" or so in an hour. The PSCZ will be in the area into the evening and diminish overnight. A few embedded t-storms will be possible in this area. Isolated showers elsewhere into Saturday morning. A weak front will move through on Saturday for an increase in shower activity, though amounts will be on the lighter side with a possible PSCZ Saturday evening. Temperatures on Saturday will be in the low to mid 60s.

Showers will taper off Saturday night into Sunday morning as ridging builds into the area. Morning clouds around on Sunday will clear for afternoon sunshine with highs in the mid to upper 60s. Temperatures will warm into Monday as ridging also builds into the Pacific Northwest with dry conditions and highs in the mid 60s to mid 70s. JD

LONG TERM /TUESDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/. The upper ridge will be the main focus through most of next week across the Pacific Northwest. Dry weather Tuesday into late week with the ridge over the area. Morning fog in areas with sunshine being the main focus. Temperatures will warm as well with the ridge building and offshore flow increasing Monday. Temperatures through most of next week will be in the 70s with spots of low 80s across the Southwest Interior and South Puget Sound areas Wednesday and Thursday.

AVIATION. A strong frontal system will gradually exit the area this evening with west to southwest flow aloft. Westerly flow aloft will continue tonight. At the surface, southeasterly flow will turn south to southwesterly behind the front this afternoon. The air mass will be stable. Cigs generally MVFR to VFR across W WA this afternoon. Most rainfall is currently east of Puget Sound at the time of this writing That said. cigs generally expected to continue to improve as showers work their way out of the area . however locations under rainfall may see cigs dip down into MVFR to IFR conditions. A Puget Sound Convergence Zone is present along the Snohomish/King county border and will likely persist into the evening hours.

KSEA . VFR cigs in place and generally will remain this evening into Saturday. Still some showers present on radar but bulk of activity is away from terminal. Scattered activity will still be possible overnight and a brief dip down into MVFR conditions while under a shower cannot be ruled out. Southerly winds 10-20 knots with higher gusts for the remainder of afternoon before speeds ease some to 8-12 kts this evening and tonight. 18

MARINE. Winds behaving in accordance with forecast. As such headlines set to expire will be allowed to do so. SCAs will remain up for the Coastal Waters /due to a mix of winds and seas/ and the Strait /winds only/ through tonight. Winds are already present in the Strait . so current headlines look good. A couple of much weaker weather systems will move through the area this weekend with light onshore flow. Offshore flow will develop early next week as a thermal trough builds north into the Coastal Waters. 18

HYDROLOGY. Persistent rains followed by widespread showers will continue to impact area rivers in W WA throughout the day today. The Skokomish River did indeed rise just above minor flood stage and as such a Flood Warning remains out. With rains tapering off west to east . any further rises on the Skokomish should be limited and river is expected to crest this evening and fall below flood stage tonight Remaining rivers. as has been stated . will see some rises but no widespread flooding is expected. 18

It is not checked for accuracy either by anyone at L-36.com or by the source which is typically the US Government. See the NOAA web site for their disclaimer. Finally, tide and current data on this site is from 2007 and 2008 data bases, which may contain even older data. Changes in harbors due to building or dredging change tides and currents and for that reason many of the locations presented are no longer supported by newer data bases. For example, there is very little tidal current data in newer data bases so current data is likely wrong to some extent. This data is NOT FOR NAVIGATION. See the XTide disclaimer for details. In addition, tide and current are influenced by storms, river flow, and other factors beyond the ability of any predictive program.
