New AVIATION

SYNOPSIS
Issued at 150 PM PDT Tue May 28 2024

Near seasonal temps inland again today with the coast remaining cool under a well-formed marine layer. Pleasant weather continues through the week with an inland warming trend.

SHORT TERM
(This evening through Wednesday)
Issued at 150 PM PDT Tue May 28 2024

The afternoon forecast update mostly fine-tuned the winds over the marine environment, while the overland forecast remains on track.

Expect mostly sunny skies into the evening for all but the coastal Monterey and Half Moon bays areas. The earlier clearing for some of the more interior areas will make this afternoon slightly warmer than yesterday, and act as the start of our mid-week warming trend.

While the coast remains cool, areas inland will warm Wednesday with the more interior valleys breaking into the mid to upper 80s. Luckily overnight lows mostly stick to the 50s, allowing for relief from the heat.

LONG TERM
(Wednesday night through next Monday)
Issued at 150 PM PDT Tue May 28 2024

Thursday looks to offer the warmest temperatures of the week as inland areas break into the 90s, but the immediate coast looks to remain in the 60s. Again with some fair overnight relief. The patter shifts into the end of the week, allowing for a slow and steady cooling trend into the weekend.

The extended forecast offers another, similar warming trend arriving Monday and Tuesday next week. Temperatures from this warming trend look to peak again in the 90s for the more interior areas, while the coast sticks to the upper 50s and low 60s. This looks to be followed my a much quicker cooling trend into the mid-week.

AVIATION
(00Z TAFS)
Issued at 440 PM PDT Tue May 28 2024

VFR currently prevails at all terminals with gusty onshore westerly surface winds across our area late this afternoon that should ease somewhat after sunset. Most marine stratus has burned off as of late this afternoon but is expected to redevelop again overnight, impacting coastal sites with MVFR/IFR late tonight into Wednesday afternoon.

Vicinity of SFO...An Airport Weather Warning for gusty west winds is in effect until 9pm PDT tonight, when they are expected to ease somewhat but remain breezy overnight. Low ceilings overnight are not expected at this time, but another round of gusty west winds is expected tomorrow afternoon and evening.

SFO Bridge Approach...Similar to SFO.

Monterey Bay Terminals...VFR this afternoon is expected to become MVFR/IFR later this evening when marine stratus develops and persists through the overnight hours into Wednesday afternoon.
Timing for stratus eroding tomorrow afternoon may be similar today as breezy westerly onshore flow is expected again tomorrow afternoon.

MARINE
(Today through Sunday)
Issued at 1056 AM PDT Tue May 28 2024

This surface high pressure will weaken and retrograde to the west heading into the weekend allowing for northwesterly winds to slightly diminish. Significant wave heights will build to 12 to 14 feet by Thursday with an abating trend set for Friday into the weekend.
