New DISCUSSION, MARINE, AVIATION

DISCUSSION
Issued at 1030 PM EST Sun Mar 3 2024

Currently - The Keys are tucked in the southwestern periphery of a large complicated high over the eastern United States and the open Atlantic. This ridge is maintaining light mostly easterly breezes across the island chain. Meanwhile, an upper level trough has pivoted out of our area leaving almoist zonal flow through the mid and upper levels. Deep layered moisture has increased considerably and mid levels have cooled over the past 24 hours.
However, a small but pronounced very low level inhibition layer has kept much of the island chain rain free. Earlier, a few showers were able to emerge off of South Florida, briefly affecting the eastern Upper Keys. Since then, the forecast area has been rain free. Temperature are unseasonably warm in the upper 70s with dew points in the lower 70s.

Short Term Update - The Keys will remain within the southwestern periphery of the high complex off to our north and northeast. This will keep winds light and mostly easterly across our area.
Forecast soundings suggest deep layered moisture will remain above normal with some CAPE available above persistent low level inhibition. The inhibition should be sufficient to prevent much in the way of shower activity. Slight chance PoPs are justified for the remainder of the overnight period. Expect overnight lows to settle in the lower to mid 70s with dew points remaining near 70.

MARINE
Issued at 1030 PM EST Sun Mar 3 2024

High pressure streteching from the eastern United States to the open Atlantic will maintain light east to southeasterly breezes on Keys waters through the overnight period. Only minor adjustments made in the evening marine update.

AVIATION
(00Z TAFS)
Issued at 1030 PM EST Sun Mar 3 2024

VFR conditions will prevail at the island terminals overnight.
With that said, periodic MVFR ceilings will be possible, primarily due to stratocumulus. Surface winds will be light out of the east.
