DISCUSSION. KBYX and KAMX local radars have been nearly echo-free over the past several hours. All isolated shower activity from this morning in the Upper Keys and the adjacent coastal waters has fallen apart. Visible satellite imagery highlights cumulus clouds streaming northward off the traditionally-favored islands in the Lower Keys. However, given the significant low-level subsidence inversion sampled by the 12z KEY sounding, these should remain harmless features, producing little to no rainfall. With that being said, the presence of such features should serve as a reminder that the traditional wet season is right around the corner for the Florida Keys.
Overall, the forecast remains largely unchained this cycle. A weak area of high pressure near northern Florida will dominate our weather through Friday. The feature will result in large scale subsidence, and in turn near-nil rain chances fore the short- term forecast period. A second, much stronger area of high pressure will move off the eastern third of the CONUS on Friday. Winds will increase for much of the weekend, owing to the resultant strong pressure gradient over the island chain. The weather for the Keys will feature above normal temperatures (highs in the low- mid 80s, lows in the low- mid 70s) through early next week and below normal rain chances.
Deterministic and ensemble numerical weather guidance diverges somewhat as we move into the middle of next week. However, there are indications that a weak boundary (similar to the feature that pushed through the Keys yesterday) may try to push through the island chain on Wednesday. There are also indications of a potentially stronger cold front approaching the Keys as we head into next week. Stay tuned as we fine tune the details of these features over the upcoming forecast cycles.
MARINE. A weak area of high pressure centered just off the Florida Panhandle will continue to slide into the western Atlantic on Thursday. Light to gentle northeast to east breezes are expected tonight through Thursday night. A second, much stronger area of high pressure will move off the coast of the New England Friday and Friday night, resulting in freshening east to southeasterly breezes through Sunday night. Breezes are expected to gradually slacken Monday into early next week.
AVIATION. VFR conditions will prevail at both EYW and MTH island terminals through 12z tomorrow morning. Only FEW to SCT clouds are expected to develop this evening with bases at around 025. Near- nil rain chances are expected for the TAF forecast period. Light and variable winds will become northeast and increase to 5 to 10 knots this evening.

Finally, tide and current data on this site is from 2007 and 2008 data bases, which may contain even older data. Changes in harbors due to building or dredging change tides and currents and for that reason many of the locations presented are no longer supported by newer data bases.
