GMZ800 Synopsis For The Coastal Waters From Bonita Beach To Suwannee River- 203 Pm Est Wed Mar 3 2021
Synopsis.. High pressure will build in across the area in the wake of the cold front that moved through our waters today. Breezy and gusty northwest winds behind the front will persist through the evening diminishing some and shifting offshore overnight. Due to the breezy and gusty nature of these winds, cautionary headlines will remain in all of our waters through the remainder of the afternoon. Winds will once again shift out of the northwest tomorrow but should remain aob 15 knots. Another more potent area of low pressure will approach the eastern gulf waters on Saturday bringing high rain chances. As high pressure builds back in early next week, breezy northeast winds will result in cautionary or perhaps even advisory criteria...

Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Tampa Bay Ruskin FL 150 PM EST Wed Mar 3 2021

DISCUSSION. A cold front continues to push across the Peninsula today and is now south of our CWA. This morning, it was decided to issue a Rip Current Statement for Gulf beaches as breezy NW winds with an onshore component will allow for favorable conditions for rips today - in addition to strong south moving longshore currents. Winds will shift slightly offshore later tonight, and the threat will decrease by tomorrow.

In addition to some beneficial rainfall most of us received with this band of convection, the other good news is this front will advect some relatively cooler and drier air into the region as we experience northerly flow for a day or so. Lows tonight in the mid 40s north to mid/upper 50s south. Highs tomorrow in the 70s will feel pleasant courtesy of much lower dewpoints.

Similar to yesterday's discussion, models concur with developing a potent area of low pressure in the Gulf this weekend. As this low tracks east across the Peninsula, significant isentropic ascent appears likely throughout the low/mid levels. Now, a caveat to a rain event like this is . The position of the surface low can play a major role in where the band of heaviest rainfall sets up. Is it north of I-4, along I-4, or south of I-4 remains a question and this will be difficult to pin point with any high degree of accuracy for at least another day or so. High temperatures on Sat will also be affected by where the greatest cloud cover and rainfall occurs. Nevertheless, confidence is steadily increasing in a wet weekend for at least a good portion of the Florida Peninsula.

Behind this disturbance, high pressure builds back into the region. A tight pressure gradient will keep breezy conditions around through the early part of next week with mostly rain free days. Boating looks to somewhat unfavorable as offshore winds look to hover between 15-20 knots from Sunday through Wednesday - resulting in rough seas. Temps will also gradually warm back up with the possibility of low 80s by mid-week. However, we are not expecting to see the same heat we had in late February (i.e. no upper 80s or 90 degrees).

AVIATION. While some scattering of clouds may occur from time to time across central and southern TAF sites, current thinking is that MVFR cigs will persist through the overnight hours as northwest winds bring strato cu off the Gulf waters. Clouds will finally break and lift tomorrow during the morning or early afternoon hours. Breezy northwest winds will diminish by sunset.

MARINE. As high pressure builds back in early next week, breezy northeast winds will result in cautionary or perhaps even advisory criteria .

FIRE WEATHER. Breezy and gusty north to northwest winds for the next couple of days as high pressure builds in behind a cold front. RH values will fall AOB critical values on Friday afternoon, but east- northeast winds below 10 mph will preclude any significant concerns. High chance for wetting rain returns Saturday.
