SHORT TERM
(Today through Sunday)
Issued at 149 AM EST Sat Dec 2 2023
Warm and dry conditions remain the status quo through the weekend, as upper ridging continues to build. This will result in geopotential height rises, with a deep fetch of mean southerly winds from the SFC to 700 hPa. Expect warm and somewhat humid conditions, with afternoon high temperatures in the mid 80s and coastal dewpoints lurking in the 70s. This will spell uncomfortable conditions for some, although still well below heat advisory criteria. Not much to speak of in terms of rainfall as dry conditions will prevail in the presence of synoptic scale subsidence. Towards the end of the weekend however, there is a slight chance for a few showers along the eastern half of South Florida in the presence of the right rear quadrant of a jet streak, and subtle low-level convergence. Activity will likely be sparse and short-lived in nature, but something to monitor nevertheless.
LONG TERM
(Sunday night through Friday)
Issued at 149 AM EST Sat Dec 2 2023
By Monday, a weakening front is expected to pass through our region. Although the southern parts of the area wont experience much change in humidity or temperature (referred to as negative Theta-E advection), northern areas can expect a slight decrease in dewpoints and temperatures following the front. Isolated showers may occur near the lake region, but overall, the fronts passage should be predominantly dry across most areas.
A shift to cooler/milder conditions will begin Monday night and continue into Tuesday. Temperatures will return to near-normal levels, with highs in the upper 70s to lower 80s. A second, reinforcing cold front on Wednesday will further reduce temperatures and humidity into Wednesday and Thursday, bringing highs down to the mid to upper 70s and lows potentially into the 50s, or even the 40s in northern areas, by Thursday morning.
The high-pressure system north of us will move eastward by Thursday, causing a slight shift in wind direction (veering) later in the week. This shift will likely moderate the low temperatures towards the weekend, though daytime highs are expected to remain moderate as upper-level temperatures hover around 10C or lower. A persistent easterly flow regime appears to become established towards the end of next week, though subject to change being this far out in the forecast period. Rainfall chances will be minimal from mid to late week, as the region experiences drier conditions following the quick passage of the two (modified) cold fronts.
AVIATION
(18Z TAFS)
Issued at 1255 PM EST Sat Dec 2 2023
Generally VFR through the period though some overnight/early morning fog/low cigs could intermittently impact terminals like TMB and APF with sub-VFR conditions. Short-fused AMDs to add sub- MVFR TEMPOs cannot be ruled out. A generally southerly to southeasterly flow today will become light and somewhat variable overnight. Wind will pick up out of the southwest and west though an Atlantic sea breeze could develop.
MARINE
Issued at 149 AM EST Sat Dec 2 2023
Benign conditions are expected over the next few days. Calm seas and slightly breezy winds out of the southeast today will shift more southerly through the weekend. Scattered showers will be possible late Sunday to early Monday over the Atlantic waters.
Winds will increase and turn northerly behind a series of quick moving cold fronts next week.
BEACHES
Issued at 149 AM EST Sat Dec 2 2023
A moderate risk of rip currents will continue today and throughout the weekend for the Atlantic beaches.
