Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Tampa Bay Ruskin FL 206 PM EDT Thu Jul 2 2020

DISCUSSION. A closed upper low is located off the New England coast with associated troughing extending southwest along the eastern seaboard. This trough remains to the north while upper ridging extends over southern Florida. This will produce a predominant west-southwest onshore flow over the region to close out the week and into the weekend. On the surface, high pressure extends over southern Florida and into the Gulf of Mexico, while a stationary frontal boundary extends from from west to east along the northern gulf coast states, through GA and into the western Atlantic. Interaction between this boundary and high pressure over southern Florida will keep a warm and moist west-southwest onshore wind flow over the region for the next several days. This pattern will support developing showers over the gulf coast waters overnight and early morning, then progressing eastward over western Florida late morning and gradually inland through the afternoon hours each day. The boundary shifts southward by the weekend bringing increased moisture and instability and will produce higher rain/storm chances from Saturday through Monday next week. With minimal change in the synoptic pattern, temperatures will remain consistent with daytime highs in the low to mid 90's each day and overnight lows in the mid to upper 70's. Heat indices each day will range from 100-105 degrees during the afternoon hours.

AVIATION. VFR conditions will prevail through the period with WSW winds around 6-12 knots through this evening. Most of the showers and storms have moved inland, so will hold weather-free conditions through around 12- 15Z tomorrow morning. Similar to what we saw today, will hold VCSH at the northern most terminals from SRQ northward after 12Z. No other aviation impacts expected.

MARINE. West-southwest winds around 10-15 knots and seas 2 feet or less will prevail over the gulf coast waters as high pressure ridges over southern Florida. Daily scattered showers and an isolated thunderstorm will be possible each day with the highest chances north of Tarpon Springs earlier in the day. The only hazard expected through the end of the week and into the weekend will be with higher winds and seas as well as dangerous lightning associated with passing thunderstorms.

FIRE WEATHER. Scattered showers and isolated storms can be expected each day for the next week. These showers combined with high humidities each day will preclude any fire weather concerns.

GEOS Local Image of Southeast    EDIT
NOTE: East coast views moved to GEOS-16. They are experimental and not well supported by NOAA so they may not be correct so be warned. This change required redoing a large amount of the GOES code. If the image you are expecting is not showing, please let me know. You may need to use the EDIT function to update your location.

The information on this web site has not been checked for accuracy. It is for entertainment purposes only and should be independently verified before using for any other reason. There are five sources. 1) Documents and manuals from a variety of sources. These have not been checked for accuracy and in many cases have not even been read by anyone associated with L-36.com. I have no idea of they are useful or accurate, I leave that to the reader. 2) Articles others have written and submitted. If you have questions on these, please contact the author. 3) Articles that represent my personal opinions. These are intended to promote thought and for entertainment. These are not intended to be fact, they are my opinions. 4) Small programs that generate result presented on a web page. Like any computer program, these may and in some cases do have errors. Almost all of these also make simplifying assumptions so they are not totally accurate even if there are no errors. Please verify all results. 5) Weather information is from numerous of sources and is presented automatically. It is not checked for accuracy either by anyone at L-36.com or by the source which is typically the US Government. See the NOAA web site for their disclaimer. Finally, tide and current data on this site is from 2007 and 2008 data bases, which may contain even older data. Changes in harbors due to building or dredging change tides and currents and for that reason many of the locations presented are no longer supported by newer data bases. For example, there is very little tidal current data in newer data bases so current data is likely wrong to some extent. This data is NOT FOR NAVIGATION. See the XTide disclaimer for details. In addition, tide and current are influenced by storms, river flow, and other factors beyond the ability of any predictive program.
