Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Tampa Bay Ruskin FL 256 PM EST Mon Feb 24 2020

SHORT TERM (Tonight - Wednesday). Weak ridging with W/SW flow aloft continues over the state with S/SE low-level flow courtesy of surface high pressure over the western Atlantic. Expect partly to occasionally mostly cloudy skies through remainder of today with highs in the upper 70s to low 80s and S/SE winds. Continued warmth with lows in the mid 60s along with increasing clouds expected tonight into Tuesday as frontal system lifting NE across Plains and Ohio Valley pushes cold front into Gulf of Mexico Tuesday and eventually across the Peninsula Wednesday.

Rain chances gradually increase from north to south Tuesday into Tuesday night, with greatest chances arriving late Tuesday into Wednesday. PW values between 1.5-1.75 inches indicate potential for heavier rainfall as the front slowly moves through, with greatest QPF amounts generally across northern and central parts of the forecast area . where 0.5-1 inches are likely across central/interior locations and 1-2 inches possible across parts of the Nature Coast. Thunderstorms also appear possible although meager instability will likely preclude much of a severe threat. Rainfall continues southward push Wednesday with chances gradually decreasing from north to south into the evening as winds shift to northerly and cooler/drier air filters into the region leading to a cooler latter half of the week.

LONG TERM (Wednesday night - Monday). A cold front will be exiting to the south of the forecast area Wednesday night with the rain ending from north to south overnight. In the wake of the front much colder and drier air will advect into the region through Thursday on a blustery northwest to northerly wind flow with cool dry weather and slowly diminishing winds expected on Friday as surface high pressure builds in over the Gulf. During Saturday another fast moving short wave trough and secondary cold front will sweep south through the region during the day. Lack of moisture will preclude any rain chances with the passage of these features with just a reinforcing short of cool dry air expected on Sunday as surface high pressure builds in from the north. The high will shift east into the Atlantic on Monday with veering winds into the east allowing for a slow warming trend. Temperatures will fall to below normal Thursday through Sunday with some near freezing temperatures possible over interior sections of the Nature coast counties Friday and Saturday mornings with lower to mid 40s across the remainder of the forecast area, with daytime highs in the 60s. Temperatures will moderate back toward seasonal norms on Monday.

AVIATION. VFR expected for majority of period with MVFR cigs for KTPA near end of period as front approaches region. Southerly winds, gusty at times, will continue through afternoon before briefly dropping off during evening/overnight hours then increasing again after 15Z or so Tuesday, with VCSH possible at KTPA/KPIE after that time as well.

MARINE. High pressure over the western Atlantic will maintain southerly winds, breezy at times, through tomorrow afternoon. A cold front moves into the Gulf tomorrow into Wednesday, with widespread showers and possibly a few thunderstorms possible. Patchy sea fog is possible as well ahead of the front. SCEC to SCA conditions are likely on Thursday as increasing northwest winds and building seas impact the eastern Gulf as high pressure builds in following frontal passage.

FIRE WEATHER. No significant fire weather concerns expected into the weekend as a frontal system pushes through the area Tuesday and Wednesday providing areawide rainfall. Cooler/drier air will move into the region Thursday with north/northwest winds, leading to lower RH values during the weekend which may approach critical values by Sunday.

There are five sources. 1) Documents and manuals from a variety of sources. These have not been checked for accuracy and in many cases have not even been read by anyone associated with L-36.com. I have no idea of they are useful or accurate, I leave that to the reader. 2) Articles others have written and submitted. Finally, tide and current data on this site is from 2007 and 2008 data bases, which may contain even older data. Changes in harbors due to building or dredging change tides and currents and for that reason many of the locations presented are no longer supported by newer data bases. For example, there is very little tidal current data in newer data bases so current data is likely wrong to some extent. This data is NOT FOR NAVIGATION. See the XTide disclaimer for details. In addition, tide and current are influenced by storms, river flow, and other factors beyond the ability of any predictive program.
