Prev Discussion. /issued 321 AM EST Sat Dec 7 2019/

DISCUSSION . An upper/mid level trough swinging through the southeastern US is helping to develop a weak surface low over the northeastern Gulf of Mexico that will linger through the weekend, while surface ridging holds north of Florida. The surface low will allow for some isolated to scattered showers to develop over the coastal waters west of the Nature Coast, and a few of these showers may push onshore at times during the weekend. However, most of the area is expected to remain rain free into early next week. As high pressure settles in over the area during the first half of the week, temperatures will warm up slightly each day, with highs expected to top out in the low to mid 80s by Tuesday.

Another upper/mid level trough will swing into Florida on Wednesday and Wednesday night, pushing a cold front into the forecast area that will stall out during the second half of the week. This front will bring isolated to scattered showers and breezy winds, as well as another shot of cool air, particularly over the Nature Coast.

MARINE . A weak area of low pressure will linger over the northeastern Gulf of Mexico through the weekend as high pressure holds north of Florida, with easterly to southerly winds generally holding around 15 knots or less. High pressure will then ridge across the Florida Peninsula and into the eastern Gulf of Mexico early next week, before a cold front approaches Wednesday and stalls across the waters through the second half of the week. This will bring an increase in wind speeds and sea heights, with periods of cautionary or advisory level conditions possible beginning late Wednesday.

FIRE WEATHER . Relative humidity is not expected to drop to critical levels through the next several days.

NOTE: East coast views moved to GEOS-16. They are experimental and not well supported by NOAA so they may not be correct so be warned. This change required redoing a large amount of the GOES code. If the image you are expecting is not showing, please let me know. You may need to use the EDIT function to update your location.

Finally, tide and current data on this site is from 2007 and 2008 data bases, which may contain even older data. Changes in harbors due to building or dredging change tides and currents and for that reason many of the locations presented are no longer supported by newer data bases. For example, there is very little tidal current data in newer data bases so current data is likely wrong to some extent. This data is NOT FOR NAVIGATION. See the XTide disclaimer for details. In addition, tide and current are influenced by storms, river flow, and other factors beyond the ability of any predictive program.
