Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Melbourne FL 955 AM EDT Tue Oct 27 2020

UPDATE. Mid-level ridging will deepen onshore flow today, as Hurricane Zeta pushes off of the Yucatan Peninsula and into the central GOMEX. Easterly winds increasing to around 10mph this afternoon will produce scattered showers and a thunderstorm or two, mainly west of I-95 from Brevard northward. Elsewhere, isolated showers and thunderstorms will be possible. Highest PoPs up to 35% from Kissimmee northward, tapering to around 20% across souther Brevard. Hi-res and global model guidance this morning shows the Treasure Coast area remaining largely dry, so have removed mentionable PoPs there. This morning's 10Z XMR sounding shows some drier air above 625mb, as well as a 500mb temperature about -4.5C. This will limit the threat from thunderstorms; However, any stronger storms that develop will be capable of brief heavy downpours, lightning strikes, and winds up to 40mph. Temperatures remaining above average this afternoon, in the mid to upper 80s. Shower and storm activity will taper off around sunset, as easterly winds push convection to the western side of the peninsula.

AVIATION. The low ceilings noted this morning at KISM should finish lifting by around 14Z. Then, VFR conditions prevailing through the period, outside of any showers or storms. Easterly flow persisting, becoming around 10kts this afternoon. Highest chance of experiencing any shower activity will be from KISM to just west of KTIX and northward. Highest confidence is at KLEE, where VCSH has been included starting at 18Z. Other VCSH/tempos may be needed as convection develops. Brief CIG/VIS reductions possible in any heavier showers and stronger storms could produce gusty winds. Activity will taper off by sunset, as showers and isolated storms push into the western half of the peninsula. Winds becoming light overnight.

MARINE. Easterly flow persisting, with winds increasing to around 10kts by this afternoon. Winds could reach 10-15kts in the offshore zones. Long period ENE swell continues, with periods up to 10 seconds. Seas remaining 3-4ft. There will be a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms this afternoon, mainly north of the Cape. Any activity will diminish by sunset, as showers and storms push inland.

Finally, tide and current data on this site is from 2007 and 2008 data bases, which may contain even older data. Changes in harbors due to building or dredging change tides and currents and for that reason many of the locations presented are no longer supported by newer data bases. For example, there is very little tidal current data in newer data bases so current data is likely wrong to some extent. This data is NOT FOR NAVIGATION. See the XTide disclaimer for details.
