Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Tampa Bay Ruskin FL 418 AM EDT Sat Aug 8 2020

DISCUSSION. It is Florida during the summer so no major surprises in the forecast over the next seven days. Upper level ridging is currently overhead bringing a neutral flow to the area. Typically a light flow will favor seabreeze storm firing along the coast in the early afternoon before heading inland throughout the rest of the afternoon and evening. This flow regime looks to stay in place through at least Tuesday of next week.

Starting on Wednesday the ridge will start to shift northward. This will start to bring a more easterly flow to the area and should bring better storm chances to the west coast. Instead of storms starting along the coast we will start to see them develop inland during the afternoon before heading towards the west coast of Florida in the late afternoon and evening hours. Temperatures will stay warm and slightly above average through the next 7 days.

AVIATION. VFR conditions expected through the next 24 hours. Typical summertime convection expected between 18z and 00z with VCTS at all terminals. Brief MVFR and IFR conditions will be possible if stronger storm moves over airports.

MARINE. Conditions looking nice for boaters through the weekend and early next week. Winds should remain below 10 knots with a light easterly wind overnight and in the morning hours shifting to a northeast wind in the afternoon. Most of the shower activity should remain over land during the afternoon and evening but boaters should still keep an eye out for isolated showers and storms.

FIRE WEATHER. Scattered showers and thunderstorms remain in the forecast for the entire period. Fire weather concerns remain low for the next several days.

NOTE: East coast views moved to GEOS-16. They are experimental and not well supported by NOAA so they may not be correct so be warned. This change required redoing a large amount of the GOES code. If the image you are expecting is not showing, please let me know. You may need to use the EDIT function to update your location.

There are five sources. 1) Documents and manuals from a variety of sources. These have not been checked for accuracy and in many cases have not even been read by anyone associated with L-36.com. I have no idea of they are useful or accurate, I leave that to the reader. 2) Articles others have written and submitted. It is not checked for accuracy either by anyone at L-36.com or by the source which is typically the US Government. See the NOAA web site for their disclaimer. Finally, tide and current data on this site is from 2007 and 2008 data bases, which may contain even older data. Changes in harbors due to building or dredging change tides and currents and for that reason many of the locations presented are no longer supported by newer data bases. For example, there is very little tidal current data in newer data bases so current data is likely wrong to some extent. This data is NOT FOR NAVIGATION. See the XTide disclaimer for details. In addition, tide and current are influenced by storms, river flow, and other factors beyond the ability of any predictive program.
