Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Tampa Bay Ruskin FL 212 AM EST Sun Jan 17 2021

DISCUSSION. Colder air has arrived overnight as building high pressure helps to drive in cooler/drier air. This morning, lows will bottom out near the freezing mark across Levy county, low mid 30s across the remainder of the Nature Coast, with 40s elsewhere across West Central and Southwest FL. A Frost Advisory remains in effect for inland Levy county through 10am. Patchy frost is possible across elsewhere from Hernando county northward. Elsewhere across West Central FL, our temperatures at sunrise will be dependent in part by the cloud cover that is ongoing. The stratus deck we see can be explained from the 00Z RAOB from our office sampled of a very dry/warm air above 850mb. Beneath this inversion is a moist layer, hence the persistent overcast layer around 4-4.5 thousand feet. Not everyone is experiencing these clouds of course, and cloud free locations can expect to see cooler morning temps and warmer afternoon highs. Nevertheless, high temperatures have been kept a couple degrees below most guidance to account for what these lower clouds may have on daytime surface heating..

High pressure builds into the area . Meanwhile another shortwave trough will dig south across the Tennessee Valley tonight into tomorrow morning. This will reinforce the cool/dry air across the region with PWATs remaining less than 0.5 inches and temps below normal through Tuesday. Expect the coolest weather to come Tuesday morning as lows dip into the 30s north of I-4 and low/mid 40s everywhere else. Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on what your preference is), weak ridging will prevail by mid week, and temperatures will steadily climb to well above average with highs in the mid/upper 70s. The addition of low-level moisture will eventually result in lows only getting down to the mid/upper 50s through the weekend. On the plus side, the rain free conditions are expected through next Sunday.

Most recent long range deterministic guidance shows dry cold front moving through out of the north on Saturday. At the moment this does not look to be much of a colder airmass . However, slightly drier air will filter into the air and drop dewpoints back into the 50s.

AVIATION. (Valid 06Z) Relatively light westerly winds 7 knots or less are expected through the period. Prevailing VFR BKN/OVC stratus deck between 035-050 will hang around all terminals. Periods of MVFR ceilings cannot be ruled out especially later in the TAF period, but confidence in this precludes any mention of lower flight categories at this time.

MARINE. Winds continue to weaken overnight as the pressure gradient slackens. However, seas are slower to decrease with less than ideal conditions persisting today. High pressure builds into our north by Tuesday with winds shifting out of the east. Winds will be elevated, but will likely not warrant any headlines through late week.

FIRE WEATHER. Main concern today will be low afternoon dispersions. RH values are expected to drop below 35% across the Nature Coast tomorrow, and below critical levels across much West Central and Southwest FL on Tuesday. Winds, will be low enough to preclude any Red Flag conditions, however. No rain is forecast across the area for the next 5 days with cool and dry conditions persisting through mid week before a gradual warming trend into the weekend.

There are five sources. 1) Documents and manuals from a variety of sources. These have not been checked for accuracy and in many cases have not even been read by anyone associated with L-36.com. I have no idea of they are useful or accurate, I leave that to the reader. 2) Articles others have written and submitted. These are not intended to be fact, they are my opinions. 4) Small programs that generate result presented on a web page. Like any computer program, these may and in some cases do have errors. Almost all of these also make simplifying assumptions so they are not totally accurate even if there are no errors. Please verify all results. 5) Weather information is from numerous of sources and is presented automatically. It is not checked for accuracy either by anyone at L-36.com or by the source which is typically the US Government. See the NOAA web site for their disclaimer. Finally, tide and current data on this site is from 2007 and 2008 data bases, which may contain even older data. Changes in harbors due to building or dredging change tides and currents and for that reason many of the locations presented are no longer supported by newer data bases. For example, there is very little tidal current data in newer data bases so current data is likely wrong to some extent. This data is NOT FOR NAVIGATION. See the XTide disclaimer for details. In addition, tide and current are influenced by storms, river flow, and other factors beyond the ability of any predictive program.
