Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Tampa Bay Ruskin FL 355 AM EDT Wed Apr 21 2021
DISCUSSION. The frontal boundary that has been meandering over the region for the last few days will finally move south out of the area as surface high pressure builds in from the northwest. There could still be a few more showers and thunderstorms this morning over the southern interior and southwest Florida, otherwise drier air will begin to spread across the region with skies gradually clearing from north to south today. The refreshingly drier air will hold on through Thursday as the surface high moves into the southeast U.S. with a north to northeast low level flow. The high will continue to move east out into the western Atlantic Ocean Friday as the next system moves across the Mississippi Valley and into the eastern U.S. on Saturday. Low level winds will veer around to the east and southeast Friday and then more south to southwest for Saturday as a cold front associated with the next system approaches from the northwest. A few showers and thunderstorms will be possible Saturday generally from around the Interstate 4 corridor northward and then spreading south across most of the area Saturday night as the boundary moves into the region. During Sunday there may still be a few showers and storms around, but mainly over the interior and eastern parts of the Florida peninsula as a west to northwest flow sets up and the boundary begins to wash out. Early next week another area of high pressure over the eastern U.S. will build in from the north setting up a low level northeasterly flow Monday veering to easterly on Tuesday.
AVIATION. Areas of MVFR ceilings will continue early this morning with a few showers and thunderstorms possible at the southwest Florida TAF sites which could cause some brief IFR conditions. Improving conditions are expected from north to south after sunrise with VFR conditions returning to all TAF sites by midday. Light and variable winds early this morning will become northwesterly at 10 to 15 knots by afternoon then subside to 5 to 10 knots and veer to north tonight.
MARINE. A frontal boundary across the southern waters will push southeast out of the region this morning as high pressure builds in over the Gulf waters with breezy northwest to north winds setting up. Wind speeds will increase to exercise caution, possibly advisory levels, across the northern waters tonight into Thursday morning. The high will hold over the area through the end of the week, then the next cold front will approach the northern waters over the weekend with an increasing chance of showers and thunderstorms. Winds will veer around to the east to southeast Friday and then become rather breezy out of the south to southwest on Saturday. Winds will continue to veer around to the west and then northwest on Sunday as the next boundary drifts into the northern waters.
FIRE WEATHER. Relative humidity values will dip into the 30s this afternoon across much of Levy county and south into the central interior, but winds and ERC values will remain below critical thresholds. On Thursday much of the region will see relative humidity values dip into the 30s, but once again winds and ERC values will remain below critical levels. For Friday into early next week low level moisture will return with no Red Flag conditions anticipated.
