After a couple of days of below average cooler weather, a warm up will start today and continue into the weekend. This is due to upper level ridging and strong high pressure setting up over the southeast U.S. Pleasant weather with rain-free conditions will continue through late Saturday. Daytime highs will top out in the 70's today and Friday and further warming into the 80's for Saturday. Overnight lows will drop into the 40's and 50's tonight, then warming into the 50's and 60's for Friday and Saturday night.
By early Sunday morning, a significant short wave trough moves eastward through the Mississippi River Valley and into the northern Gulf of Mexico. This trough will lend support to a strong cold front that will approach the eastern gulf waters and Florida peninsula through the day on Sunday bringing scattered showers and storms as it moves through the area. Some of these storms could be strong with damaging winds possible. As the front exits the area south and east of Florida by early Monday morning, high pressure builds in over the southeast U.S. in the wake of this front producing a tight pressure gradient that will produce breezy conditions for the first part of next week. This will also help usher in the next cool down on Monday and Tuesday next week.
