DISCUSSION
Issued at 350 AM EST Tue Jan 21 2025
The overrunning moisture has continued to increase with clouds and some rain developing over the southern and central areas early this morning. The moisture will continue to increase today with widespread rain expected later today and tonight across the region as the upper level shortwave and associated low pressure system moves east. Breezy northerly winds will setup tonight bringing more cold air south and we could see a brief period of freezing rain over Levy County around and shortly after sunrise, but overall amounts look very slim as the precipitation will be coming to end here at around the same time. The rain will end across the entire area by Wednesday afternoon as the shortwave moves by, but the chances for a few showers will return Wednesday night into Thursday as another upper level shortwave and associated cold front move toward the area. This system will move off to the east Friday with cold high pressure building in setting the stage for freezing temperatures across much of the Nature Coast Friday and Saturday mornings, along with some frost possible further south into inland parts of the central peninsula Saturday morning. Only limiting factor for frost this far south could be winds which look to remain around 4 to 8 mph during Friday night into Saturday morning. For the rest of the weekend into early next week we'll see a more zonal upper level flow setup with temperatures moderating back to near to slightly above normal.
AVIATION
(06Z TAFS)
Issued at 350 AM EST Tue Jan 21 2025
Areas of MVFR/local IFR ceilings early this morning will deteriorate with widespread IFR ceilings expected to overspread the TAF sites today and continue through tonight. Areas of rain, mostly light today, will persist and become more widespread tonight, then gradually taper off from west to east Wednesday morning. Northeast winds at 10 to 15 knots will become north later today and tonight and increase to around 15 knots with some higher gusts.
MARINE
Issued at 350 AM EST Tue Jan 21 2025
Robust north to northeast winds will continue through midweek with wind speeds increasing back to gale levels from north to south late this afternoon and tonight as the next system moves across the waters. Winds will diminish during the second half of the week, but exercise caution criteria level winds will still be possible.
FIRE WEATHER
Issued at 350 AM EST Tue Jan 21 2025
The next low pressure system will continue to develop in the southern Gulf of Mexico today with moisture spreading back north across the area leading to increased rain chances into Wednesday. A brief period of freezing rain will be possible across Levy County early Wednesday morning, otherwise plain rain is expected. Given the rather wet pattern there are no fire weather concerns at this time.
