Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Tampa Bay Ruskin FL 955 AM EDT Wed Sep 30 2020

UPDATE. Cold front is now to our south however cloud cover is still lingering in our southern counties. Cloudy skies will continue with a few showers possible in Lee and Charlotte counties. Everywhere else humidity will be much lower along with comfortable temperatures through the day.

Prev Discussion. /issued 746 AM EDT Wed Sep 30 2020/

AVIATION . MVFR conditions expected for the next few hours at our southern airports. Besides that expect VFR conditions through the period. Winds will be out of the north and northeast and wind speeds will be decreasing throughout the morning hours.

Prev Discussion . /issued 452 AM EDT Wed Sep 30 2020/

DISCUSSION . Amplified pattern aloft continues over CONUS with a strong ridge out west and a deep trough over the east extending down into our area. Surface cold front has pushed across much of the peninsula, currently located along a line roughly from just south of Melbourne to Fort Myers. Support aloft is lifting northeast allowing front to stall and wash out over the southern peninsula over the next day or so. Configuration of CONUS pattern doesn't change much through the forecast period allowing a mostly dry front to move into the region Friday as another shortwave rotates around the base of the trough. Ridging over the western Atlantic builds back into the region slightly over the weekend as eastern CONUS troughing dampens a bit, with an increase in moisture over the peninsula in combination with peripheral flow around a northwest Caribbean disturbance as flow shifts more easterly. Setup remains similar into next week with the main question centering around the evolution of the Caribbean disturbance.

Northerly flow expected for the next few days as the cold front stalls and washes out to our south, with cooler/drier air filtering into northern and central sections while southernmost locations remain a bit milder. Highs this afternoon will reach the upper 70s/low 80 before gradually warming into the mid/upper 80s by early next week. Winds remain mostly north/northeast before shifting more east/northeast over the weekend. Northerly flow will keep moisture confined mostly to southern locations the next few days before the shift more easterly over the weekend allows increased moisture into central locations, which looks to remain the case through the forecast period. Cloudiness over most of the area this morning will gradually clear from the northwest through the day down through the central peninsula with areas further south remaining cloudy with a chance of showers in association with the stalled front.

MARINE . Gradient between high pressure ridging south across the waters behind cold front over southern waters continues increased northerly winds and seas. Front gradually washes out over the next few days with continued showers and isolated storms mainly over central and southern waters the next few days before also spreading to northern waters over the weekend.

FIRE WEATHER . Drier air filtering into region via northerly flow as high pressure builds behind front over southern half of peninsula. No minimum RH concerns expected over the next few days despite the drier air mass, and moisture is expected to increase over the weekend as winds shift more easterly.

There are five sources. 1) Documents and manuals from a variety of sources. These have not been checked for accuracy and in many cases have not even been read by anyone associated with L-36.com. I have no idea of they are useful or accurate, I leave that to the reader. 2) Articles others have written and submitted. It is not checked for accuracy either by anyone at L-36.com or by the source which is typically the US Government. See the NOAA web site for their disclaimer. Finally, tide and current data on this site is from 2007 and 2008 data bases, which may contain even older data. Changes in harbors due to building or dredging change tides and currents and for that reason many of the locations presented are no longer supported by newer data bases. For example, there is very little tidal current data in newer data bases so current data is likely wrong to some extent. This data is NOT FOR NAVIGATION. See the XTide disclaimer for details. In addition, tide and current are influenced by storms, river flow, and other factors beyond the ability of any predictive program.
