Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Corpus Christi TX 134 AM CDT Wed Mar 18 2026
New DISCUSSION, AVIATION, MARINE, FIRE WEATHER
KEY MESSAGES
Updated at 132 AM CDT Wed Mar 18 2026
- Elevated fire weather conditions over the Brush Country and inland Coastal Plains daily through Monday
- Besides elevated fire weather, benign rain-free weather and warming trend continues into early next week
DISCUSSION
Issued at 132 AM CDT Wed Mar 18 2026
A large ridge over the SW CONUS will dominate the forecast, with a benign rain-free warming trend into early next week over South Texas.
Mostly clear and near to below normal atmospheric moisture will persist into early next week. High temperatures will climb into the mid to upper 90s this weekend over the Brush Country, with widespread lows in the lower to mid 60s. Just beyond the current forecast into the middle of next week, models are not in good agreement with the synoptic flow.
Our main concern will remain daily elevated fire weather conditions developing during the afternoon and early evening hours over the Brush Country and inland Coastal Plains. Although winds will remain generally below critical criteria, occasional moderate wind gusts in combination with relative humidity of 15-30% and critically dry fuels, will promote elevated fire weather concerns.
AVIATION
(06Z TAFS)
Issued at 132 AM CDT Wed Mar 18 2026
VFR conditions will continue across South Texas tonight through Wednesday. Southeast winds under 10 knots will increase to 12-15 knots Wednesday afternoon before diminishing to under 10 knots once again Wednesday evening.
MARINE
Issued at 132 AM CDT Wed Mar 18 2026
A gentle to moderate (BF 3-4) south to southeasterly breeze will persist through this weekend. Winds will occasionally strengthen to a fresh breeze (BF 5) over the bays and nearshore waters south of Port Aransas this weekend. No rain chances are expected at this time.
FIRE WEATHER
Issued at 132 AM CDT Wed Mar 18 2026
Although winds will remain generally below critical criteria, occasional wind gusts around 20 mph in combination with relative humidity of 15-30% and critically dry fuels over the Brush Country and inland Coastal Plains, will promote elevated fire weather concerns. Therefore, a Fire Danger Statement has been issued for Duval, McMullen, La Salle, and Webb counties from mid-afternoon today through this evening. We can expect similar conditions daily through early next week with the addition of warming trend.
