New AVIATION

SHORT TERM
(Tonight through Tuesday night)
Issued at 245 PM CDT Mon Apr 21 2025

Key Messages:

- Low to medium rain chances Tuesday night

A weak, cold front has pushed into the Coastal Bend this afternoon.
The convection in South Texas has been to ride along the front toward the north Since about 15z this morning. So suspect that there is a weak 500 mb shortwave pushing east-northeast along the 500 mb flow. The models show that as the main impulse from this morning's convection moves into Southeast Texas, the front begins to move back to the west. There is a low chance (20-30%) for showers and thunderstorms with the front, but with no upper support, it's going to be limited. This evening, as the diurnal heating diminishes, the shower and thunderstorms will come to an end. Tuesday, there continues to be a low chance (15-30% chance) for showers and thunderstorms, that looks like it starts in the late morning/early afternoon along the Coastal Bend, and moves inland, to the Rio Grande Plains by the later afternoon. As we lose the heat of the day, the chances drop to around 15% for Tuesday night.

High Temperatures will be from the lower to mid 80s along the Coastal Bend to the mid 90s in the Rio Grande Plains.

LONG TERM
(Wednesday through next Sunday)
Issued at 245 PM CDT Mon Apr 21 2025

Key Messages:

- Low-medium chances of showers and thunderstorms Wednesday with the best chances over the northern Brush Country and Victoria Crossroads.
- Low chances continue through Wednesday night over the Brush Country.

A mid-level shortwave combined with a low-level trough Wednesday will result in a Low-medium (20-55%) chance for showers and thunderstorms through Wednesday afternoon. Chances taper off to around 10-25% Wednesday night over the Brush Country and linger into Thursday. Then the forecast transitions to a more settled weather pattern for the remainder of the long term period as high pressure over Mexico builds across the region.

Above normal temperatures are expected throughout the period especially towards the end of the week. Low 80s-90s will trend upward throughout the week with highs in the mid 80s to around 100 by Sunday with the upper end of the trend expected out west.
Overnight, low temperatures will see less of an increase with temperatures generally ranging in the low to mid 70s across the region. Skies will start out mostly cloudy with partly cloudy conditions returning this upcoming weekend accompanied by a slightly, breezy onshore flow.

AVIATION
(06Z TAFS)
Issued at 1220 AM CDT Tue Apr 22 2025

A mix of VFR/MVFR CIGs will remain positioned across the region before becoming primarily MVFR overnight into Tuesday morning.
Cannot rule out brief periods of IFR across our easternmost sites during that period. Low-level moisture from today's rain combined with light, variable winds will help to promote the development of patchy fog overnight. This will primarily affect KALI, KVCT, and KCRP by 08z-09Z Tuesday, reducing VSBYs to 4-5 SM. Any fog development will mix out by mid-morning as winds increase to 10-15 knots, with gusts up to 20 knots. CIGs are also forecast to bounce back to VFR by late morning into the early afternoon, with isolated showers and thunderstorms expected once again to impact the area.
Included PROB30 groups to denote this.

MARINE
Issued at 245 PM CDT Mon Apr 21 2025

A light to gentle breeze (BF 2-3) is expected through Tuesday morning. The onshore flow will increase to a Moderate breeze (BF 4)
Tuesday and continue into Tuesday night. Expect a generally, moderate breeze (BF 4) to persist over the waters through the remainder of the week, leading to periods of Small Craft Exercise Caution conditions. This will be accompanied by a low to moderate (20-40%) chance for showers and thunderstorms Wednesday.

FIRE WEATHER
Issued at 245 PM CDT Mon Apr 21 2025

20 ft winds and minimum RH values are not expected to exceed thresholds during the remainder of the week, but may approach thresholds early next week. ERC values across much of the region looks to remain below the 55th percentile over southern Webb county and much of the region between the 0-24th percentile, so no elevated or critical fire weather is expected at this time.
