SHORT TERM
(Today through Monday Night)
Issued at 334 AM CST Sun Dec 10 2023
Clouds are gradually working their way to the coast and offshore this morning as dry air works its way in with the associated high pressure. Expect today to be much quieter than yesterday, with sunny skies and much cooler temperatures. Highs for today will be in the 50s area wide. Mostly clear to clear skies tonight will enhance radiational cooling, allowing temperatures to drop into the 30s across the area. A few locations further inland and in northern counties will likely get below freezing tonight. This may necessitate a Freeze Warning for locations that have yet to experience a widespread freeze; however, it is very borderline, and temperatures are not expected to stay below freezing for more than a couple of hours. In any case, protecting any vulnerable plants and pots would not be a bad idea for tonight.
Winds will be out of the NW this morning at 10-15 mph, with gusts of 25-30 mph for locations along and south of I-10. Highest winds remain along the coast, where a Wind Advisory is in place until 9 AM this morning. Winds will weaken significantly during the afternoon hours.
Onshore flow will return Monday afternoon, allowing moisture to return to the area once again. This will lead to a slight increase in cloud cover along the coast, however, most locations should experience partly cloudy to mostly sunny skies on Monday.
Temperatures will warm back into the 60s.

LONG TERM
(Tuesday through Saturday)
Issued at 334 AM CST Sun Dec 10 2023
Mostly seasonable conditions can be expected into Thursday for most inland locations with a broad area of high pressure situated to our east and a mostly dry ene low level flow in place. Exceptions might be along the coastal counties late Wednesday night and Thursday when an upper disturbance, currently situated west of Baja, tracks across Mexico and into the Gulf. Coastal areas might see the northern periphery of some sct shra situated offshore.
Guidance is pointing toward a deeper, more southeastward track of the next western upper trof...more in line with what was the outlier GFS was depicting yesterday at this time. Fairly good agreement with the global models taking the base of the trof thru the Desert Southwest toward the Big Bend area Friday, then off to the e/se Saturday afternoon. At the surface, would expect a coastal trof to develop off the coast as the upper trof approaches. Combination of increasing moisture and large scale lift cloudiness look to provide some fairly good rain (and maybe some elevated tstm) chances across the region Fri-Sat...eventually ending late Sat as the system passes and a drier airmass/front fills back in. 47
AVIATION
(12Z TAF Issuance)
Issued at 452 AM CST Sun Dec 10 2023
VFR conditions will prevail through the period. NW winds will continue to gust to above 20 knots through the morning hours before weakening to below 10 knots by this evening. Skies will be mostly sunny to clear today.
MARINE
Issued at 334 AM CST Sun Dec 10 2023
Winds have underperformed in the bays, so will be downgrading to a small craft advsy there. Speeds in the 25-40kt range and 10ft= seas are being observed offshore so will maintain the gale warning there, but will likely be able to transition to a small craft advsy after noon. Conditions should gradually begin improving this afternoon and tonight. Low water conditions can be expected in the bays today, especially around low tide times. High pressure moves overhead tonight followed by a return of southeast winds. Heading into the early and middle parts of the week, a long fetch of moderate east winds set up across the Gulf which will cause building seas and above normal tides. Periods of unsettled weather are possible in the offshore Gulf waters late Wednesday night into Thursday in association with a upper disturbance passing through. 47
