KEY MESSAGES
Updated at 600 PM CDT Wed Jun 24 2026
- Minor to moderate heat-related impacts through the period.
- Small Craft Advisory conditions possible the latter part of the week and into the weekend.
DISCUSSION
Issued at 121 PM CDT Wed Jun 24 2026
No major changes were made to this afternoon forecast package. One thing to note will be that a batch of Saharan dust will be moving into the Gulf this weekend with the NASA GEOS forecast calling for this dust to move into South Texas by the start of the upcoming work week. This will bring hazy/milky skies, but it is too early to tell if the concentration would be high enough to reduce temperatures from NBM guidance right now. We will keep monitoring this trend.
Previous Discussion
High pressure will dominate the forecast through the upcoming week, leading to dry and hot weather. Heat indices will generally range from 100-109 across South Texas with a Moderate HeatRisk for most of South Texas. Remember to apply and reapply the sunscreen/mosquito spray/lotions, remain hydrated, and to take plenty of breaks in the shade/AC.
Aside from the heat, this weekend's winds will become breezier (southeast winds at 20-25 mph gusting to 35 mph). Most of the area will likely welcome the breeze, but we will be considering marine hazards by this weekend.
AVIATION
(00Z TAFS)
Issued at 600 PM CDT Wed Jun 24 2026
VFR conditions are expected to continue across South Texas through tonight, though there is a low chance that MVFR ceilings could develop as early 03Z. Mostly likely, expect MVFR ceilings to develop over COT/LRD/ALI from around 10Z-14Z, so have included this in TEMPO groups. Breezy conditions will diminish overnight, then return Thursday with wind gusts to 25 knots expected.
MARINE
Issued at 121 PM CDT Wed Jun 24 2026
Moderate to fresh southeasterly winds (BF 4-5) and 3-4 ft seas can be expected through Thursday. This weekend, winds along the nearshore waters increase to fresh to strong (BF 5-6) and seas increase to 4-6 ft. This will likely lead to Small Craft Advisory headlines this weekend.
