New SHORT TERM, LONG TERM, MARINE, FIRE WEATHER, HYDROLOGY
KEY MESSAGES
Issued at 238 PM EDT Sat Jun 27 2026
- Dangerous heat is expected this weekend into early next week, increasing the potential for heat stress and illnesses. Stay hydrated and take frequent breaks in air-conditioned places if possible.
- After a mostly dry weekend, afternoon thunderstorms are forecast to return next work week. Some may produce strong wind gusts and frequent lightning. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors.
- Dangerous heat may return for the holiday weekend again increasing the potential for heat stress and illnesses.
SHORT TERM
(Tonight through Sunday night)
Issued at 238 PM EDT Sat Jun 27 2026
A ridge building over the region tonight and Sunday will bring in some drier air leading to very limited PoPs on Sunday. However, this will also allow for warmer temperatures, with highs reaching the mid to upper 90s (and apparent temperatures approaching Heat Advisory level along the coast). With the slightly drier airmass in place, expecting a bit more mixing and slightly lower dewpoints, which may keep heat indices just below Heat Advisory levels for most area.
Coastal areas will be very near criteria for an hour or two before the seabreeze moves inland.
LONG TERM
(Monday through next Friday)
Issued at 238 PM EDT Sat Jun 27 2026
By Monday, the flow across the CONUS becomes much more amplified with a deep trough over the west and an impressive ridge beginning to take shape over the east. The upper ridge will close off to the north allowing for northeast and then easterly flow to develop across the local area. This will initially push deeper moisture (and some elevated mid-level flow) into the region, resulting in a return to higher PoPs beginning Monday, but likely peaking Tuesday into Wednesday as an inverted trough moves around the southern periphery of the ridge.
The deeper moisture will keep dewpoints elevated on Monday, but temperatures will still likely reach the mid to upper 90s, give a potentially later convection initiation time, so Heat Advisories will be possible for some areas.
By late in the weak, the subsidence associated with the ridge is likely to begin to dominate the region, with PoPs dropping off and temperatures returning to the upper 90s as the holiday weekend approaches.
AVIATION
(18Z TAFS)
Issued at 133 PM EDT Sat Jun 27 2026
VFR conditions should prevail this afternoon. Shower and thunderstorm chances are lower today with ECP/TLH/VLD only having PROB30 groups for TSRA between 19-24z this evening. Brief MVFR conditions possible in any TSRA activity, but VFR conditions will most likely prevail overnight outside any patchy fog that forms near sunrise.
MARINE
Issued at 238 PM EDT Sat Jun 27 2026
Gentle west to southwest flow is expected through this weekend, becoming easterly by the middle of next week. Seas will be around 1- 2 feet through the next several days. Scattered showers and storms return again early next week, mainly during the nighttime and morning hours.
FIRE WEATHER
Issued at 238 PM EDT Sat Jun 27 2026
Transport winds will mainly be out of the west to southwest around 10 mph through the weekend, turning more northeast and east by the middle of next week. Dispersions will be good each afternoon. Only isolated showers and storms are anticipated over the Florida zones today with less coverage Sunday. An increase in rain chances returns Monday afternoon and evening. Otherwise, increasing heat concerns are expected this weekend with heat index values in the 100-110, possibly higher Monday.
HYDROLOGY
Issued at 238 PM EDT Sat Jun 27 2026
While thunderstorms could pose a locally heavy rain threat early next week, widespread flood concerns are not expected over the next 7 days. The Choctawhatchee at Bruce has crested just above minor flood stage, and will fall below flood stage Sunday. Action stages continue on the rest of the lower Choctawhatchee and Ochlockonee basins. No additional river flooding is expected.
