Forecast remains on track through tonight. No major updates required at this time.
NEAR TERM
Issued at 153 PM EDT Thu Apr 17 2025
For the latest NE FL and SE GA Daily Key Messages please visit: https:// www.weather.gov/media/jax/briefings/nws-jax-briefing.pdf
Dry conditions continue under surface high pressure building NE of the region and an amplifying mid level 500 mb ridge across the central Gulf coast states. Shallow moisture advection today under easterly winds will bring the potential for some low level, near surface fog toward daybreak Friday morning near and just west of the SE GA I-95 corridor and the JAX Westside where low level winds will be weaker. With the dry air in place, leaned toward the cool side of NBM guidance blending in the 10th and 25th percentile range yielding low temperatures in the low/mid 50s inland to low/mid 60s coast.
SHORT TERM
(Friday through Saturday night)
Issued at 153 PM EDT Thu Apr 17 2025
Central high pressure will make its way off the North Carolina and Virginia coast Friday and Saturday with upper level ridging moving in by Friday night. Pressure gradients tighten as central high pressure strengthens over the Atlantic, bringing breezy southeasterly winds to the area by the late morning to early afternoon each day. High daytime temperatures will be in the mid to upper 80s inland, staying in the upper 70s to low 80s along the coast. Skies will be mostly sunny with a few clouds making their way over the area through the day. Overnight, lows will be in the upper 50s to low 60s, reaching into the mid 60s along the coast.
Patchy fog will be possible early Friday morning, mainly along the HWY-301 corridor.
LONG TERM
(Sunday through next Thursday)
Issued at 153 PM EDT Thu Apr 17 2025
High pressure off the coast will begin to weaken Sunday into Monday, easing winds at inland areas. A cold front will approach the area Tuesday before stalling Wednesday across central Georgia and weakening Thursday. The approaching cold front will push moisture into the area, increasing chances for precipitation Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon mainly north and west of HWY-84 to 15-20% over southeast Georgia. Thursday, rain chances will push further south into northeast Florida bringing a 10-20% chance of showers over the forecast area in the afternoon. Temperatures will be above seasonal average through the period with high daytime temperatures in the mid to upper 80s and overnight lows in the low to mid 60s.
AVIATION
(06Z TAFS)
Issued at 157 AM EDT Fri Apr 18 2025
VFR conditions continue with calm conditions at inland terminals while southeasterly breezes remain at coastal sites. While there may be some patchy, shallow fog later this morning around dawn, potential for MVFR visibility is only around 10%; VFR conditions are likely to prevail through the period with southeasterly winds increasing and becoming gusty late this morning and persist through the afternoon. Scattered cumulus with little vertical extent should build ahead of the sea breeze late this morning (bases at or above 4 kft).
MARINE
Issued at 153 PM EDT Thu Apr 17 2025
High pressure over area waters will shift towards northeast of the area late today. The high will remain centered to the northeast Friday into Saturday, then to the east on Sunday. A frontal system will settle southward across the region early to mid next week, bringing a chance for showers and thunderstorms.
Rip Currents: Moderate risk through the weekend with increasing SE winds.
FIRE WEATHER
Issued at 153 PM EDT Thu Apr 17 2025
Long duration's of low relative humidity and dry soils have lead to Elevated Fire Danger for locations west of I-75 today. Winds will begin to shift to be out of the southeast as central high pressure makes its way off the coast of the Carolina's. High pressure will build Friday and Saturday, tightening local pressure gradients as it moves into the Atlantic bringing sustained onshore winds of 10-15 mph and gusts up to 20-25 mph over the area by the late morning to early afternoon Friday and Saturday. These winds will help bring moisture in off the Atlantic and minRH values above 30% tomorrow through the rest of the forecast period. Breezy winds create very good dispersion over the area Friday with some patchy high dispersion over inland areas Saturday. Sunday, high pressure will weaken, easing winds out of the south-southeast at inland locations.|
