New UPDATE, AVIATION
UPDATE
Issued at 1212 PM CST Sat Feb 8 2025
A few updates were made this morning to increase the chance for a few light showers across coastal SELA as a few showers in the cloud streets are likely. Most of this activity should remain just east and southeast of New Orleans but could slide into the city.
Also this activity will drift north and northeast into coastal MS.
That said 99% of the those areas will remain rain free along with the rest of the area. Fog has finally cleared out but look for it to return again tonight. /CAB/
SHORT TERM
(Today through Sunday)
Issued at 248 AM CST Sat Feb 8 2025
Fog will be the only weather issue for the short term. A few showers will be around but nothing that will be of note. These nights will be advective fog nights through the weekend. Cold front moving through Kansas this morning will be knocking on our door by Sunday.
But this is where it will slow to a crawl. The front could just slowly filter cool air into the area by late Sunday but moreso Sunday night. A few more showers will visit but still isolated at best through Sunday.
LONG TERM
(Sunday night through Friday)
Issued at 248 AM CST Sat Feb 8 2025
Basically we should just see a few light showers and fog around for Sunday into Sunday night. A digging trough will give some forcing to this boundary as it draws it slowly northward Mon night into early Tue. Another front will move in as the upper support begins to lift out causing this thermal boundary to move back over the same area and maybe even deeper into our area Tue night into Wed. This time there could be some storms with it as the support begins to lift out. We will need to see if this boundary stalls over the area or not by mid week next week since there will definitely be an active upper jet riding over this boundary which would send a few disturbances along this frontal interface providing high chances of rainfall and storms.
AVIATION
(18Z TAFS)
Issued at 1212 PM CST Sat Feb 8 2025
MVFR and VFR conditions are no in place over all terminals but this will change as we hit sunset and especially afterwards. Once again all terminals will be heavily impacted again by both low cigs and vsbys. Most terminals if not all will see at the least IFR but probably LIFR with some dropping to VLIFR. This will begin as fast as 2/3z across coastal MS and quickly along the tidal lakes impacting MSY and NEW with ASD right behind. BTR and MCB once again should be the least impacted however cigs still should drop to 200/300 ft and and vsbys down to 1/2 t 2sm before improving after sunrise. Once again all terminals besides BTR and MCB will see probably IFR or lower conditions till 15/16z and a few could last until 18z. /CAB/

LIFR cigs and vis should last until after sunrise but only moving to IFR through mid morning. All terminals should be MVFR to VFR by late morning. This process should repeat again tonight.
MARINE
Issued at 248 AM CST Sat Feb 8 2025
Light southerly winds will remain into the first half of next week and should also remain 15kt or less. Fog is expected to be an issue for some coastal waters mainly in the nearshore waters and especially the Miss River nightly. Most if not all of the Miss River will have dense fog through mid morning today. The dense fog advisory will remain for all protected and nearshore waters through 10 am today and all waters east of the Miss River through noon.
Marine roadways will be impacted as well.
