SHORT TERM
(This evening through Tuesday)
Issued at 305 PM CDT Sun Oct 13 2024
The CWA is currently right on the eastern fridge of a broad upper level ridge that encompasses the eastern western half of the country. An upper trough is draped over the rest/eastern half of the country. The increased heights from the ridge will keep highs on the warm side to start the week off. Still have relatively low dewpoints in place from previous air mass, so will still have near normal lows each morning. NBM suggests that temps will be a little cooler Tuesday afternoon as the trough to the east digs south and suppresses the ridge aloft. Do believe this may be overcome by compressional warming as cold front approaches from the north. Timing will play a big factor in that, but may need to go above guidance a good bit for those forecast afternoon temps Tues.
LONG TERM
(Tuesday night through Saturday night)
Issued at 305 PM CDT Sun Oct 13 2024
The only remotely impactful weather will come in right at the beginning of this portion of the forecast period. As mentioned above, a strong cold front driven by digging upper level trough will be approaching and moving through the CWA Tuesday night around midnight. Strong cold air advection will usher in much cooler air into the entire region. Expect to see lows and highs 10 to 20 degrees cooler than they are now through remainder of the week. Will then see temps rebound back to climo next weekend as upper level trough ejects east and ridge builds in behind it.
AVIATION
(06Z TAFS)
Issued at 1150 PM CDT Sun Oct 13 2024 VFR conditions are expected for all terminals for the forecast period. There is some potential for brief light patchy fog at BTR, MCB, HUM before sunrise but it should quickly dissipate after sunrise.
MARINE
Issued at 305 PM CDT Sun Oct 13 2024
Surface ridge will remain centered just south of the local coastal waters over the central Gulf the next couple days. This will keep winds/seas on the low end. A strong cold front is still expected to march through the region Tuesday night. Expect rapidly increasing north winds 06z-09z as the boundary passing through the coastal waters. Solid Small Craft Advisory winds and seas will develop with gusts possibly approaching Gales right behind the front. Northerly winds will transition to a northeast to east direction the rest of this week as high pressure centered to the north slides eastward.
