Synopsis for pascagoula to atchafalaya river out 60 nm -
with high pressure centered well to the east and a front dropping down the plains we will continue to see onshore flow through tomorrow. As low pressure deepens and moves into the great lakes driving the cold front towards the lower ms valley Wednesday these winds will strengthen to around 15 knots ahead of the cold front. There may be a weak low to develop along the front as it moves across the northern gulf coast Wednesday night with strong offshore winds quickly developing behind the cold front. Scy conditions will quickly develop and we could even see a period of gale conditions. Showers and Thunderstorms will accompany the front as it moves through the coastal waters Wednesday evening into the overnight hours. These storms could also bring very strong marine winds and even a few waterspouts.

KEY MESSAGES
Issued at 1230 PM CDT Mon Mar 9 2026
- Patchy dense fog is possible overnight into the pre-dawn hours over the next several nights.
- Strong to Severe storms with large hail possible this afternoon and another round of severe storms possible Wednesday night into Thursday morning.
- Near Gale force sustained winds and frequent gale force gusts possible over the open Gulf Waters Wednesday night into Thursday.
DISCUSSION
Issued at 1258 AM CDT Mon Mar 9 2026
Areas of dense fog will continue across the area through the morning hours and a dense fog advisory is in effect through 9am.
Once the fog clears, temps will warm into the upper 70s and low 80s. Moisture levels will also increase today ahead a shortwave moving through the zonal flow aloft. This will lead to the development of showers and thunderstorms across northern portions of the area during the afternoon hours. Favorable instability and deep layer shear will create an environment favorable for strong to severe thunderstorms mainly north of Highway 84 where there is a slight risk of severe storms today. The main threat is large hail, potentially up to 2 inches in diameter. The tornado threat is low but cannot be completely ruled out. Dry conditions follow in the wake of the shortwave on Tuesday as upper ridging builds over the area with high temps in the low to mid 80s. The next system approaches Wednesday night into Thursday morning. This will bring another chance for strong to severe storms to the area. A much cooler and drier airmass moves into the area on Thursday with highs in the low to mid 60s inland to near 70 along the coast.
Lows Thursday night fall into the low 40s inland to upper 40s along the coast. Temperatures warm back into the upper 70s and low 80s by the weekend. /13
