Synopsis for the far southern california coast.. At 1 pm, a 1029 mb high was 800 nm west of san diego, and a 1016 mb low was over southern utah. Weak flow will prevail through the middle of next week, mostly from the north or northwest.

SYNOPSIS
Building high pressure will lead to warmer temperatures across Southern California through the middle of next week. The nights will still be cold in the valleys, but along the higher terrain, some wind will keep it a bit warmer some nights. Onshore flow returns by late next week as a trough moves inland across the Pacific Northwest. This will increase winds across the mountains and deserts and bring cooling through next weekend.

FOR EXTREME SOUTHWESTERN CALIFORNIA INCLUDING ORANGE...
SAN DIEGO...WESTERN RIVERSIDE AND SOUTHWESTERN SAN BERNARDINO COUNTIES...

At 1 PM, skies are mostly clear across Southern California, with the exception of some very light cirrus clouds. Temperatures have warmed efficiently this afternoon and are generally running 2-5 degrees above Friday afternoon across the coast, valleys and portions of the deserts, and up to 10 degrees warmer in the mountains. Highs will reach the upper-60s across the coast and valleys, the 40s and 50s in the mountains, the upper-50s in the High Desert and low-70s in the lower deserts.

A strengthening ridge is moving towards the western U.S. today, becoming anchored over the Pacific Northwest through the first half of the week. Positive height anomalies develop over Southern California tomorrow and strengthen, likely reaching the peak on Tuesday. Highs will warm 3-5 degrees each day through Tuesday, which will likely be the warmest day of the week.

Periods of breezy offshore winds are expected on Monday and Tuesday, but these winds will generally be quite weak, with peak gusts of 30-40 mph along wind-prone passes and canyons. Where winds remain breezy overnight, low temperatures will remain elevated, but will fall quickly in sheltered areas.

The ridge will quickly weaken and move eastward by the second half of the week and an upper low will approach the Pacific Northwest.
Winds turn back onshore, temperatures cool and a brief rebuilding of the marine layer will be possible for Thursday and Friday.
Gusty winds will be possible over the mountains and deserts during this time. As of now, the low looks to move inland well to our north, and brings very little moisture into Southern California.
The forecast consensus is dry, but a minority of ensemble solutions remain wet, especially over and west of the mountains.
Once the wave moves east, we could get a period of gusty Santa Ana winds in it's wake, but these will be cool, and it looks dry again into the following week.

MARINE
No hazardous marine weather is expected through next Thursday.
