Synopsis for the far southern ca coast - At 1 am, a 1030 mb high was 1300 nm west of cape mendocino, ca and a 1005 mb low was near las vegas, nv. Onshore flow will strengthen for Tuesday and Wednesday with gusts up to 20-25 kt in the outer waters near san clemente island in the afternoons and evenings. Weak to moderate onshore flow returns for Thursday and Friday.

SYNOPSIS
The marine layer will gradually deepen to around 5000 feet by early Wednesday with night and morning coastal low clouds extending well inland and onto the coastal slopes of the mountains. High temperatures will cool several degrees for Tuesday and Wednesday to as much as 15 to 20 degrees below average for the mountains on Wednesday. Southwest to west winds for the mountains and deserts will strengthen for Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday night with gusts to 35 to 45 mph with isolated gusts to 60 mph through the passes. There could be patchy drizzle or light rain from the coast to the mountains during the nights and mornings from late tonight into Thursday morning. There will be warming for Friday through next weekend high temperatures for next Sunday a few to around 5 degrees above average.

FOR EXTREME SOUTHWESTERN CALIFORNIA INCLUDING ORANGE...
SAN DIEGO...WESTERN RIVERSIDE AND SOUTHWESTERN SAN BERNARDINO COUNTIES...

.SHORT TERM (Today through Wednesday)...
The marine layer will gradually deepen to around 5000 feet by early Wednesday as a closed low pressure system moves into the Pacific Northwest tonight and into central California on Wednesday. This will strengthen the onshore across southern California with southwest to west winds for the mountains and deserts gusting to 35 to 45 mph at times for Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday night with isolated gusts to 65 mph through the northern Coachella Valley below the San Gorgonio Pass.

The greatest cooling of high temperatures is expected on Tuesday and Wednesday with Wednesday high temperatures as much as 15 to 20 degrees below average for the mountains. High temperatures on Wednesday will be mostly in the 60s and lower 70s for the coast and valleys with the lower deserts in the 80s.

There could also be some drizzle or light rain from the coast to the mountains, mainly late at night into the morning from late tonight into Thursday morning.

.LONG TERM (Thursday through Sunday)...
There will be slight warming of high temperatures on Thursday with greater warming for Friday through next weekend with high temperatures for next Sunday generally a few to around 5 degrees above average. High temperatures for next Sunday will range from around 70 near the coast to the 80s for the Inland Empire with the lower deserts around 100.

Coast/Valleys
While marine layer clouds have filled in through the coastal slopes across San Diego County (based 2000- 2400ft MSL), they have been more meager to form into Orange County and the Inland Empire this morning. However, CIGs are still expected at KSNA, KONT, and KSBD between 12-17z. Clouds expected to scatter out around 16-17z for the inland valleys, and by 18-19z for the coastal areas, with areas of FEW-SCT lingering along some beaches into the afternoon. Low clouds with similar to slightly higher bases will move inland after 00z Tue, starting in San Diego County and moving north/northeast through the evening and early overnight hours.

Mountains/Deserts...Besides FEW-SCT cumulus over the mountain ridges Mon afternoon, mostly clear with VFR conditions.

MARINE
Breezier westerly winds pick up for Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon, primarily in the outer waters. Gusts 20-25 kts possible near San Clemente Island. Otherwise, no hazardous marine conditions are expected through Friday.

SKYWARN
Skywarn activation is not requested. However weather spotters are encouraged to report significant weather conditions.
