SYNOPSIS
Brisk north winds and cool temperatures will persist today with the strongest winds along and near the Colorado River Valley. An area of high pressure over the Great Basin will weaken and give way to another trough dropping into the Four Corners Region Tuesday and Wednesday resulting in renewed north breezes and seasonably cool temperatures.

DISCUSSION
Today through Sunday.

Brisk north-northeast winds across southern Nevada and surrounding area with gusts over 40 mph along and near the Colorado River Valley will be the primary weather concern today. The Wind Advisory remains unchanged and in effect through this afternoon for the Colorado River zones, southern Clark and eastern San Bernardino counties.
Wind speeds will diminish tonight and become light across most of the region Sunday except gusts 25-30 mph will linger near Laughlin- Bullhead City. Highs today will dip 3-5 degrees from Friday's readings then a ridge building over the western states through will result in high temperatures climbing about 10 degrees for Bishop, California and south central Nevada while the only climbing 1-3 degrees across the Mojave Desert region.

LONG TERM
Monday through Saturday.

An inside slider will drop down the lee side of this ridge, moving into our area before becoming a cut-off low over the Desert Southwest around mid-week. Current guidance shows that this will be a relatively dry system, so precipitation impacts are not expected at this time. Cooler, more seasonal temperatures and breezy winds are the more likely impacts. However, current guidance suggests that temperature and wind impacts will be low to minimal.

AVIATION
For Harry Reid...Moderate northeast winds will continue through the early morning, with increasing gustiness after daybreak.
Wind gusts to 20kts are likely into the afternoon before gradually diminishing after 22Z. The gustiness should end by sunset, and sustained winds will continue to diminish through the evening before turning westerly 7kts or less by early Sunday morning. Only a FEW- SCT high clouds AOA 20kft are expected through the TAF period.

For the rest of southern Nevada, northwest Arizona and southeast California...Gusty northerly winds over 30kts will continue through the afternoon in the lower Colorado River Valley. Winds will diminish at KEED after sunset, but gusty winds will persist at KIFP through the night. Elsewhere, most areas will see north to northeast winds through this afternoon. Speeds at KDAG and KBIH should remain less than 10kts while Vegas area sites will see winds 10-15kts with occasional gusts to 20kts. Winds less than 8kts are expected overnight in both areas. Only a FEW-SCT high clouds AOA 20kft are expected across the region through the TAF period.
