Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Reno NV 1218 PM PST Sun Jan 12 2025
SYNOPSIS
* Expect predominantly dry weather throughout the week.
* Occasional gusty northeast ridge winds will linger through Tuesday, driven by the passage of a dry cold front across the area.
* Daytime highs remain cooler than normal, with cold overnight lows early this week. Temperatures gradually climb toward seasonal averages later in the week.
DISCUSSION
A low pressure detaches from the main low center in the middle of the country tonight, giving us a brief inside slider Monday. This will keep temperatures cool with many locations seeing highs in the 40s today and tomorrow. Overnight lows will be in the teens for much of the area and then stay below freezing through the remainder of the week.
This inside slider will bring enhanced NE flow, bringing ridge wind gusts up to 65 mph Monday into early Tuesday. As the low pressure drops into southern CA, ridging develops over the Pacific NW. This will keep us in a pattern of NE flow this week.
Additionally, we'll see a slight warming trend starting Tuesday, bringing high temperatures up to near normal by the weekend.
However, this also means the return of valley inversions and poor ventilation. -Giralte
AVIATION
VFR conditions expected through this week for all terminals. Increased NE winds for Sierra terminals Monday, bringing an increase in turbulence, otherwise winds remain light and variable. -Giralte
REV Watches/Warnings/Advisories
NV...None.
CA...None.
