Synopsis
Despite cold morning temperatures and areas of frost, quiet and generally seasonable weather prevails across interior NorCal through the forecast period.
GOES-West satellite imagery as of early this morning depicts a fairly persistent area of high clouds over the region. While this will work to stymie the overall overnight cooling a tad bit, low temperatures by this morning still look to drop into the 30s in the Valley and 20s across the mountains. After this cool start to the day, high temperatures by this afternoon look to reach similar values as yesterday, with Valley high temperatures in the mid to upper 50s and 40s to low 50s in the mountains. A weak shortwave embedded within the general northwesterly flow pattern aloft looks to brush interior NorCal this evening into the overnight hours.
While impacts look to remain minimal, there is a slight (15 to 20%)
chance for a few isolated showers across Shasta county.
Probabilities of exceeding 0.10" of QPF are only in the 5 to 10% range.
Moving into the early to mid week ahead, reinforcing ridging aloft looks to build into the region with increasing heights aloft. This will work to keep the weather quiet and temperatures on a slight upward trajectory. High temperatures on Monday and Tuesday look to breach the low 60s throughout the Valley with 50s anticipated in the mountains. Despite this, areas of morning Valley frost look to prevail as well as overnight temperatures continue to dip down into the 30s. As the ridging aloft transitions slightly eastward by midweek, an offshore trough looks to build in. This will result in a slight cool down on Wednesday, with breezy north to east winds possible as well.
.EXTENDED DISCUSSION (Thursday THROUGH Sunday)...
Despite the presence of the aforementioned offshore troughing, this feature looks to remain off the coast through the end of the week and into the weekend. As a result, the overall weather looks to remain quiet with little to no chances for precipitation across the long term. This pattern will also be conducive for generally stagnant temperatures as well, with Valley high temperatures in the upper 50s to low 60s and upper 40s to 50s in the mountains.
AVIATION
VFR conditions next 24 hours except areas of MVFR, with local IFR/LIFR, in the Central Valley thru about 18Z. Surface wind gusts below 12 kts.
STO WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES
None.
