For additional details on weather and expected impacts over the next 7 days, please visit weather.gov/sto/briefing.
KEY MESSAGES
- Well-above normal temperatures expected through next week, with Minor HeatRisk in the Valley.
DISCUSSION
...Today-Friday...
Temperatures will continue to be above-normal today through Friday as a ridge continues to amplify across western CONUS.
Temperatures will continue to rise, with winds remaining light and occasionally a breezy onshore flow near the Delta later this evening. Conditions will be dry, with no precipitation expected.
RH values drop down into the upper single digits to teens for areas in the higher elevations through Friday during the afternoon. Clouds will start to increase on Friday evening and overnight as the ridge flattens slightly and a system moves into the Pacific NW. Minor HeatRisk within the Valley Thursday and Friday.
...Saturday-Midweek...
The ridge flattens slightly, with minor chances (less than 15 percent chance) for isolated showers around Shasta County Saturday. Otherwise, the vast majority of the region will be dry with continued warming temperatures. Record high temperatures are possible for some areas this weekend and into next week. Minor HeatRisk is expected over the weekend for the Valley and spreads into the Foothills and mountains early next week. Areas within the Delta and Valley see the potential for Moderate HeatRisk Tuesday and Wednesday as high temperatures reach the upper 80s to lower 90s. The chance for Moderate HeatRisk sits at 50-60 percent for areas in the southern Sacramento Valley, the Delta, and northern San Joaquin Valley Tuesday and Wednesday. Looking out past mid next week, there is little indication that the ridge will break down and cool temperatures. Well above-normal temperatures are expected to continue throughout next week and potentially into the following weekend.
Be sure to take extra precautions against heat related illnesses when spending time outside, especially this coming weekend. Additionally, local water ways are still running cold so be sure to practice cold water safety if spending time on the water this week.
AVIATION
VFR conditions are expected through the TAF period, with FEW sky coverage around RDD through the afternoon and evening. Winds around 5-10kts going light and variable this evening and overnight.
STO WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES
None.
