Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Reno NV 1257 PM PST Mon Dec 8 2025
KEY MESSAGES
* Dry weather and near record warmth expected this week.
* Hazy skies and degraded air quality possible each morning across lower urban valleys.
* Greater potential for precipitation and increased winds around early next week.
DISCUSSION
Benign weather prevails this week though it feels more like November out there with these high temperatures. Afternoon highs will be in the low to mid 60s areawide through Thursday. We could even see some record warmth at the Reno Intl' Airport; the best day will be Tuesday where there is a 75% chance of hitting a record high of 65F or above. The current forecast Tuesday is 64 degrees.
We're in the midst of a strong ridging pattern. This will keep skies clear with minimal clouds. Due to low-level inversions, expect valley haze (and light fog for valleys around Truckee)
each morning this week before dispersing by the early afternoon hours.
A pattern change looks to be on the way as early as Monday of next week. Model guidance has the aforementioned riding pattern pushing east, which will open up the storm door for low pressure systems to move in. There is still low confidence on exact timing and threats, though, as models show varying scenarios.

AVIATION
Minimal weather concerns this week as high pressure maintains VFR conditions and light breezes. Slantwise visibilities may also be reduced each morning, primarily for W NV sites, due to hazy skies.
