Synopsis for the central california coast and bays including the Monterey bay - Greater farallones - .and cordell bank national marine sanctuaries - .
northerly flow will persist thanks to high pressure anchored to the west. Winds will be locally stronger, especially over the outer waters leading to hazardous conditions for smaller craft through Wednesday. Moderate seas and moderate northwesterly breezes will prevail Thursday and Friday. Strong northwesterly breezes and rough seas return Saturday to the outer waters.

Discussion

Synopsis
Two mostly minor impact weather systems to impact the area over the next 7 days. The first system will drop into the area Wednesday and bring a pretty good chance (40% to 60%) of showers and thunderstorms to foothills and higher terrain to areas south of Highway 50 tomorrow afternoon and evening. For the most part weather will be dry and mild until the stronger system moves into the area Saturday bringing cooler temperatures and widespread chance of light precipiitation...with light accumulations of snow above 6000 feet in the Sierra.

Key Messages

* Wednesday:

-Good chance (40-60%) of showers and thunderstorms mainly south of highway 50 afternoon and evening.

* Friday into Sunday -Cooling trend returns with chances of showers in the mountains, foothills, and northern Sacramento Valley.
-Isolated mountain thunderstorms possible with breezy onshore winds.
-Snow levels generally above pass levels on Friday then lowering on Saturday into Sunday, with light high elevation snowfall currently expected, though exact details remain uncertain at this point.

VFR conditions are expected over the next 24 hours, with surface winds less than 12 kts. West-northwest wind gusts 15-20 kts are expected over the Sierra between 21-03Z. Additionally, there is a 10-15% chance of isolated mountain thunderstorms between 23Z-06Z.
