SYNOPSIS

Snow showers have ended across the Sierra and western Nevada, but watch out for slick, icy roads early today. Be sure to check road conditions, especially in the Sierra and northeast California. High pressure makes a return over the weekend bringing a gradual warming trend and dry conditions.

DISCUSSION
High pressure over the weekend into early next week brings dry conditions, a gradual warming trend, and
warning trigger alert
no precipitation potential.

WINDS: Breezy ridge winds will continue today with ridge wind gusts between 25 to 40 mph. The winds will shift northeast to east tonight into early Saturday with some enhanced breezes possible along the Sierra crest. Otherwise, light winds will prevail through the rest of the weekend and for all valley areas.

TEMPERATURES: It's going to feel pretty chilly today, but we will see a gradual warming the next few days. As high pressure resumes its position across the West, surface inversions also return with periods of hazy conditions for our urban areas and freezing fog for the colder Sierra valleys. Afternoon temperatures will begin to feel quite mild by Saturday and Sunday as the lower valleys approach the mid to upper 50s and even 60 degrees. *Checks calendar* Yep, it's December. Temperatures will level off to near normal by Monday and remain steady the rest of the week as a handful of shortwaves pass by to the north and flatten high pressure's hold over the region.

PRECIPITATION: The weekend into early next week looks quite dry . Honestly, the next decent shot at a storm won't be until around the December 16th-18th timeframe. Ensemble cluster analysis shows the high pressure anomaly migrating eastward across the Midwest, which may open the door to an incoming trough across the Eastern Pacific. Ensemble meteograms are also 'lighting up' during this period, showing a return of precipitation potential.
There are still pretty large differences in the location of the incoming trough, but it's a plus to see the high pressure signal vacate the West in a handful of the latest simulations.

AVIATION

* Plan on freezing fog in the from about 8z-17z through the weekend for the Sierra valleys and KTRK as high pressure and surface inversions return to the region.

* Otherwise, this weekend's flying will feature lighter winds and dry conditions. Surface inversions may allow some light haze to build up in urban areas with minor impacts to slantwise visibility each day.

* No big storm signals for now, but next stormy period possible by December 16th-18th.

AVALANCHE

High pressure returns across the region with relatively clear skies, outside of some high passing clouds over the weekend. Dry and quiet weather along with a warming trend is on the table through Monday.

* Temperatures: Running 5-10 degrees below average with highs in the upper 20s to low 30s. Temperatures will warm 5-10 degrees on Saturday. Additional warming is expected by Sunday with another 5 to 8 degree warm up before the temperature trend levels off for the week.

* Winds: Northwesterly wind gusts 30 to 40 mph today switching to east northeast late this evening and overnight.

* Snow: No snow is forecast through the weekend. Very low chances (8- 10% along Sierra) for precipitation return late Monday. Next storm window is leaning toward the December 16th-18th timeframe.
