For additional details on weather and expected impacts over the next 7 days, please visit weather.gov/sto/briefing.
KEY MESSAGES
- Dry and warm weather prevails, with slightly cooler yet still above-normal temperatures this afternoon.
- Well-above normal high temperatures expected Thursday onward, with areas of Minor HeatRisk in the Valley.
DISCUSSION
Today
Temperatures will remain above-normal today as westerly flow continues aloft and ridging builds over the Eastern Pacific. A slight "cool down" is expected on Tuesday as ridging continues to flatten out over Northern California, however temperatures will still be a few degrees above normal. Winds will be light, with occasionally breezy onshore flow through the Delta and southern Sacramento Valley this evening.
...Wednesday-Next Week...
Ridging begins to strengthen and build over Northern California by mid week, and is on track to dominate the synoptic pattern into early next week. Temperatures will climb well above-normal, with Minor HeatRisk returns to the Valley Thursday onward. The NBM is indicating a 60 to 90% chance of Valley high temperatures greater than 80 degrees Wednesday through Sunday. Warmer overnight lows compared to seasonal averages are expected during this time as well. By late this week, we will see dry conditions intensify with minimum relative humidity values into the teens over the high elevation of the Sierra and into the 20s over the upper foothills.
Temperatures increase into next week with the potential of 90 degrees by midweek across portions of the Central Valley. Be sure to take extra precautions against heat related illnesses when spending time outside, especially this coming weekend.
Additionally, locally water ways are still running cold so be sure to practice cold water safety if spending time on the water this week.
AVIATION
VFR conditions are expected through the next 24 hours, with winds at 5-10kts and ceilings above 20kft.
STO WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES
None.
