Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Pittsburgh PA 1215 AM EDT Sat May 30 2020
SYNOPSIS. Passage of this evenings front will herald much cooler weather for the weekend.
NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 AM THIS MORNING/. Changes for the eve update included weather and PoP adjustments as per the latest radar, obs, and high res model trends of less precip activity overnight. The cold front is expected to complete passage by midnight with and residual showers winding down as the associated mid level trough shunts forcing-for-ascent areas eastward.
Cold advection will drive overnight lows to very near the averages.
SHORT TERM /6 AM THIS MORNING THROUGH 6 PM SUNDAY/. With low-level residual moisture and cold advection expected early Saturday morning, a low stratus deck/some fog will form before sunrise across the region. The cooler air mass will bring low temps into the mid 40s for low on Sunday morning.
A weak shortwave advancing across Lake Erie may produce scattered rain showers briefly Saturday afternoon. High pressure building over the Great Lakes will return quiet, dry weather Saturday evening and continue into the day on Sunday.
LONG TERM /SUNDAY NIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY/. The long term portion of the forecast will begin with the upper level flow in a meridional pattern with the stout ridge to the west slowly inching east over the area. This will effectively cut off the forecast area from precip for a couple days into Monday and Tuesday next week. At the surface, high pressure will pass through to the south with the main ridge axis stretching northward into the forecast area.
As this high slips to the east, southwest flow will develop in the lower levels allowing warmer, and wetter air to return to the region for the latter half of the week.
AVIATION /04Z SATURDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/. MVFR Cig restrictions continue for mainly the eastern half of the forecast area in cool NNWly flow. Drier air will help to lift these restrictions near dawn, with VFR then expected through the remainder of the TAF period.
Residual boundary layer moisture will aid peri-dawn fog development this morning. IFR with shortlived LIFR vsby restrictions will be possible for most sites.
Outlook. The next general restriction chance can be expected with mid week low pressure.

NOTE: East coast views moved to GEOS-16. They are experimental and not well supported by NOAA so they may not be correct so be warned. This change required redoing a large amount of the GOES code. If the image you are expecting is not showing, please let me know. You may need to use the EDIT function to update your location.

I do not sell or share any user data or anything else for that matter. The only personal information I save is in the site log which has a line for each page view which includes the IP address your browser sends in the header as well as which page you requested. I use this to block hackers and other bad actors. I do not use this raw data to create profiles on users. I periodically delete the log files. If you are subject to CCPA, Google ads on this site will not be based on your past behavior so you will likely not see an ad for a lawn mower just because you looked for one at a big box website. The information on this web site has not been checked for accuracy. It is for entertainment purposes only and should be independently verified before using for any other reason. There are five sources. 1) Documents and manuals from a variety of sources. These have not been checked for accuracy and in many cases have not even been read by anyone associated with L-36.com. I have no idea of they are useful or accurate, I leave that to the reader. 2) Articles others have written and submitted. If you have questions on these, please contact the author. 3) Articles that represent my personal opinions. These are intended to promote thought and for entertainment. These are not intended to be fact, they are my opinions. 4) Small programs that generate result presented on a web page. Like any computer program, these may and in some cases do have errors. Almost all of these also make simplifying assumptions so they are not totally accurate even if there are no errors. Please verify all results. 5) Weather information is from numerous of sources and is presented automatically. It is not checked for accuracy either by anyone at L-36.com or by the source which is typically the US Government. See the NOAA web site for their disclaimer. Finally, tide and current data on this site is from 2007 and 2008 data bases, which may contain even older data. Changes in harbors due to building or dredging change tides and currents and for that reason many of the locations presented are no longer supported by newer data bases. For example, there is very little tidal current data in newer data bases so current data is likely wrong to some extent. This data is NOT FOR NAVIGATION. See the XTide disclaimer for details. In addition, tide and current are influenced by storms, river flow, and other factors beyond the ability of any predictive program.
